He's 23 now, I have been a big supporter based on his VFL form, but I would have expected more by this stage at AFL level.

3 years seems too long IMO. 2 years would have been plenty.

Nankervis contracted for 2 more years. Ryan likely to be getting a crack at being number 1 ruck in the 3rd year of this deal. If you don't sign him for 3 years and he gets a lot stronger 2025, or 2026 other clubs could snap him up before we get the chance to deploy him as our #1 ruckman.

He won't be on silly money and he is a bit better than most rucks as a forward as well and should get better there. Good list management imo.

Interesting to hear the young fella so relaxed and confident we will turn things around, starting with more wins this season.

2 years for Nank was a year too many....Ryan & Balta should be our rucks going forward...if Ryan's a bust then we have OHB waiting in the wings who should be AFL ready in '26 if he keeps tracking at his current pace ....and we'll probably pick up another ruck along the way....

3 years for a bloke who can't even take a mark? This should be the easiest thing for a 7 foot player to do. He's not proven he's up to it yet gets job security by virtue of being tall? What next Colina gets a 2 year extension????

He's played 4 games averaging 5 touches 2 marks and 8 hit outs this year. Only taken one contested mark. Wtf is in charge of contracts? How do best 22 KP Miller and Lefau only get 2 year deals while Ryan gets 3? FMD the clubs becoming a rudderless ship. I can't remember too many wise decisions but plenty of outright stinkers.

Only thing that could justify 3 years is if he's playing for minimum wage and all the KFC he can eat???

Must admit the 3 yrs term is surprising, he has not come along much this year after the strides he took last year but the club must really see a lot of upside and at worst lock him away as a back up ruckman with a low salary

The big giraffe needs a rocket in attitude on field to deserve another 3 years. Modern ruckmen are basically extra midfielders nowadays and without that he won’t be a top player

Problem is his lack of athleticism… he’s an absolute dinosaur when the ball hits the deck. Adam Pattison was Usain Bolt compared to Ryan

I'd say 2 years is all Miller wanted to sign for as it takes him to free agency. He'll be in for a much bigger pay day at that time if he stays or goes.

Miller is a free agent whenever he comes out of contract as we’ve delisted and then re-listed him in the past

I agree though he likely only wanted two so he can get more cash in a couple of years time

Who are these rucks that grow on tree’s that we will instantly score?

Don't know if you have noticed but across the entire comp quality rucks are in very short supply and clubs are trying to fill the void with rucks who are only good for like 1 year (Essendon with Goldstein)

Other clubs that are lacking a clear number 1 ruck or will be looking for one in the next 12 - 24 months are Port, Geelong, Gold Coast, Sydney, Brisbane and even Melbourne

Even Ryan was originally recruited as the best prospect ruck in the state league at the time
