EssADA* warned about AOD-9604 at crisis meeting in February

ESSENDON'S concerns over the use of the banned anti-obesity drug AOD-9604 were raised at a club crisis meeting on February 4.
Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority investigators have been told club doctor Bruce Reid referred to the substance during a meeting of club figures at the home of former Essendon chairman David Evans.
The meeting was attended by Bombers coach James Hird, football boss Danny Corcoran, former chief executive Ian Robson, Reid and Evans.

It was the same meeting at which Evans took a call from AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou.
According to testimony given to ASADA investigators, AOD-9604 was raised again the following day - February 5 - at a meeting in the AFL boardroom.
That meeting took place before an afternoon press conference at which the Bombers said they had "self-reported" to the AFL and ASADA over concerns players used performance-enhancing drugs in 2012.

ESSENDON players were to receive 1500 injections of AOD-9604 and Thymosin, according to an AFL charging document seen by the Herald Sun.
The document also states more than 16,500 doses of Colostrum and 8000 doses of Tribulus were planned.

The revelations come as lawyers for Essendon and club officials James Hird, Mark Thompson, Dr Bruce Reid and Danny Corcoran prepare a strong defence to charges they have brought the game into disrepute.

It is believed lawyers for the Bombers will maintain that AOD-9064 is approved for human therapeutic use in Australia when supplied by a compounding pharmacist and therefore has Therapeutic Goods Administration approval in Australia.

And to think that this is what they are hanging their hats on!!!
This is why they were doctor shopping. Get as many scripts as possible to send to the compounding chemist! This is the loophole they wished to exploit. This is why drop kicks like timmy keep carrying on about "approved for human use" when there is no TGA approval. This is what they are trying to exploit! Hahaha!!!

Hird refuses to save colleagues

James Hird and his key staffers refused an AFL offer for the Essendon coach to plead guilty alone to misconduct charges, which would have spared club doctor Bruce Reid, Mark Thompson and Danny Corcoran from facing the commission.
With Hird and his club now openly at war with the competition's governing body, it is understood that the AFL expected on Monday that Hird would be the only individual still at the club to face charges emanating from the 2011-12 drugs program.

The negotiation was to have seen Reid and Corcoran resign from Essendon at the end of the season. Instead both men, along with senior assistant Thompson, chose to stand alongside Hird and fight the misconduct charges.

If that article is to be believed, Hirds and Essendons lawyers are going to argue all evidence gathered is invalid. These guys are out of control. How about the commission hearing is heard by Essendon Chairman Little and he can decide on punishments (probably 5 mins in the naughty corner for all).

They are throwing the AFL into further disrepute and ruining the sport for all. If they fail in the courts can they have more disrepute charges brought against them?

Essendenial are stuffed on so many fronts. Lawyer mate of mine went into some detail explaining employment contract law, duty of care responsibilities of employers, loss of future earnings etc. Once the AFL, ASADA and WADA are finished, the players may have the right to challenge their contracts, sue for breach of contract and seek punitive damages. Doing some quick math, if all affected players went down this path, it could bankrupt the club. Another issue for them to consider is laying of assault charges.
All this bluff and bluster with Vlad and the AFL is a sideshow.

The thing that is mindblowingly staggering for me is how Hird can demand that cerain things be done by a certain date otherwise they are going to seek an injunction. It's completely and utterly ridiculous!

I am embarrassed to confess that a friend of mine is going on that stupid march. I asked her how they'll drag it out for four hours and she didn't know.

They are doing an injustice to the league by not conceding. I understand their right to fight and natural justice, however for them to try and battle this out until after finals means that they will lose their points in 2014. This will mean they have nothing to play for next year, their coaches will be suspended, there will no desire for supporters to purchase memberships, they would just blood kid I suspect, that is if they have any players after they could potentially be suspended... or they shut up shop for 2014... all because they want to clear their name?

The AFL knows what needs to be done, as do we, and that is to take away their points for 2013, or they will make a mockery of the 2014 season, not only for the league, but also cripple the club beyond recognition, moreso than what will happen.

Lets not forget the loss of draft picks and the big fine thats going to go with it. With the Gold Coast becoming competitive and GWS not far behind, Essendon are going to be at the bottom for a long time to come. Think about what we went through, and then double it. Do you think the AFL will have any interest in helping them out after they dragged this on? Look at Melbourne, that was a relative slap on the wrist ompared to what happens when you take on the league, as opposed to accepting the error you made. Now the AFL is trying to slip them a priority pick, and would have had it not been for the coaches eing so outspoken against it.

Never take on City Hall. They are upsetting the apple cart here, first with Hirds comments regarding the phone call from Demetrio to Evans, and now trying to dictate how thins are going to transpire. The league doesnt want to see the club go under, because they are a big club, and then what happens to all the supporters? Where do they go? The league loses revenue. They dont want that most of all.

There is most certainly no challenging what James Hird wants at Essendon, but I think he mistakes his position in the world when he thinks this means that this equates to the fact that the League will bow to hm as well.
