Player Watch #34: Jack Graham - MOVED TO WCE - PICK 42 Received

Hand balling to players under more pressure then he is because he is one of the slowest players on the ground.

I’m hoping he isn’t extended and we can find a way to get a second round pick out of him.

I like it. By having one more midfielder at the centre bounce we’re almost certain to win the clearance 😜
Actually - bloody good idea.

If anyone can find a correlation between hitout numbers and clearances, I'd like to see it. In the first 3 rounds (27 games), there were 12 games where the side that won the hitouts won the clearances, there were 12 games where the side that won the hitouts lost the clearances, and 3 games where the hitouts or clearances were level. No correlation at all.

Hitouts don't matter a damn regarding clearances. It's set-up having good clearance players and good tactics. And having good clearances - ie - getting the ball to aplyer who has time to do a decent kick, rather than just a hack kick.

The only two teams that won the hitouts in all 3 games and also won the clearances in all 3 games were...........
...........
............
(pause for effect)
.................
.................

Gold Coast and Richmond.

And they're both shit.

OK - you have to have someone jump at the contest, or the opposition will just thump it forward 30 metres each time. But just play a negator (like Pickett) who is also a useful clearance player, rather than a big lumbering ruckman.

He's supposed to be in his prime. 7 years in the system now. Media said he only needed to play a couple of games to trigger his extension. He's played 8 games now and no word. His games vary from mediocre to bung average. Short of a massive lift in form or turning into a tagger I'd rather him gone from the list. Complete list clogging plodder on good coin.

He's done..... IF it wasn't for his great 2017 Grand Final he would have been off loaded years ago, now he is running around like a 40 year old, he cannot jump and he cannot kick over 45m, he cannot tag blokes like Rozee, Neale and Oliver. They would obliterate him. poor overhead and no left side....injuries, stand rule, insufficient attempt to keep the ball in play and kicker inner allowed to run 40m have made the defensive average skilled gut runner obsolete.... then add Taranto and Hopper coming and Sonz and Jack Ross already have him covered in 2024. there is no spot for him anymore even as depth.

His demise is unfortunate and because he no longer has the A grade assistance of Martin, Cotchin and Prestia. With injuries having further reduced his speed now it's all sad as he’s now become a reject shop Sam Mitchell. Was one of my favourites, but just can’t get to that consistency anymore and he’s never shown growth in his game, but dropped off since 2021.
Try and get a second rounder off Adelaide as they have a younger and faster list which may accommodate him better. We could probably carry him, but we have so many players that are at his speed and he’s no longer worth the coin.
Jack Graham That Is has now become Jack Graham That Isn’t.

Didn't Pickett play tag?
Way better suited to the role than JG.
JG as HF is the spot, but yet another close loss..dimmas role players have to come in the firing line.
With Graham, Mansell, Under performing JR and Ryan up there.
Plus 31 year old Dusty.
Chuck in 3 goals 10 in a half.
Opens the door to Cumberland , Bauer et al .

Our forward line is slower than a wet week. Graham is a good player, but he has to be in great nick because he one wood is his constant pressure running at medium high speed. When not fit he just can't make it across the turn fast enough for long enough so he becomes a bit of a plodder. Not getting any quicker as well. Needs top drop 5kg's.

Don’t think it’s a coincidence he’s dropped off like many under our dismal fitness regime

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com
I thought TT and JH would have sent JG and Ross out of the team. But I guess JG is a hf and Ross is a winger.
TBH he's always been a ok runner.

Team running stats. Have a look at the AFL app.

We win just about all running stats (this week 8 out 10 )

1. RFC had 4 out the 5 top players for total distance ran.
2. RFC 3 out of the top 5 for high speed running including JG
3. RFC 3 out top 5 for max speed running.
4. RFC 4 out top 5 for average speed. (JG equal 3rd)

4. Sprints RFC 249 to PA 233

5. Repeat sprints RFC 29 to PA 16

6. work rate in attack JG 4th at

7. RFC out ran Port by 2 km
8. PAFC won the high speed stat

9. Work rate in attack RFC >>PAFC

10 Work rate in defence PA >>RFC

Seems like we are fit enough just can't play good football.

Yea that actually wasn’t too bad I didn’t notice rozee

I’m hoping he sticks around under a new coach and is given that chance to shine.

Not sure why he didn’t get him to go to rozee or butters instead of Pickett.
Essendon game, we got a dude accumulating 40 possessions. At what stage do we go geez, might pay to put someone on him? Particularly when we aren't going too flash?

Has had an ongoing toe foot problem looks to me that it plagues him now , bet he had a bag of ice on after the game
Then he shouldnt be playing - if thats the case then the MC can GAGF!!! Seriously at what point and WHY did they move away from NEVER playing injured or underdone players to playing injured players? I remember up to 2020, if a player missed 2-3+ weeks they needed to get through an entire weeks training to be up for selection, yep thats right an entire week, not just 1 full session, we even made players like prestia, Caddy and Lynch have "mini" preseasons of 2-4 weeks of full session training to build some serious conditioning, that was why 1) our injured players always seemlessly slotted straight back into the side without missing a beat and 2) we showed our young guys that we had faith in them by playing them when a champion wasnt 100% and they responded accordingly. Now all we do is show them we have no faith in them ie picking injured/unfit role players ahead of them which is not only affecting their confidence (and dont try and tell me it isnt) but also affecting our team performances.
