Just watched the highlights, and saw him slotting one from 50, intercept marking and then quickly switching it into the corridor, roving out the back, running past for a handball receive, picking it up off his toes and dishing it out, taking a mark full pace on the lead …
In 2-3 years the biggest complaints will be about which end of the ground we are playing him.
The kid has already stopped talking to his brother he hates Poorta that much.
I suspect forward, but I think genuine swingman. In part that'll depend on what they do with Comben, who I suspect also plays both ends in 2025 depending on opposition and needs. Will Dawson I think will develop in defence so makes sense for Mattlock to be developed more as a forward.

Not many of them kick 82 goals as a 16 yo in the O&M seniors….

That sort of thinking strays into Nobles territory for mine. I'd rather have a second key forward (and defender) who we can rely on absolutely. Not a collection of utilities who do both forward and defensive duties to an ok/reasonable degree. Years too early to judge, but I was shocked that for that price, we didn't even pick up a bona fide key forward. His brother was right there.
How many elite key position players get swung around regularly at the whims of the coach in this league? None, I reckon. I hope to God he settles as a forward. He has the talent but there are always dilemmas with these sorts of players, whether you're robbing so and so to pay the other so and so.

Didn’t know that. That’s an amazing effort.
W. Dawson looked totally lost playing forward in the VFL. Small sample size though.
Of the three people I have spoken to this past week who have had contact with him have said he’s a great bloke. Not sure about the football side but that is a good start
