Player Watch #36: Kozzy Pickett – stacking up with the best after 100 games

Yeah that’s fair, wasn’t coming from the club I guess and I’m sure he knows where Kossie’s at with it all
Exactly, it's not a Melbourne article, but aside from that I'm happy to read it. Jetts is talking up the importance of the cultural liaison folk within clubs, the journalist's chosen to focus the story in on Kozzie. It's a success story anyway.

I've got so much love for Jetta. I wish him nothing but the best in his coaching journey and hope he ends up back with the demons some time in the future.

Perfect blend of discipline (chasing/tackling) and flair.

Love watching him play.
He’s unstoppable for his second efforts alone. Basically the perfect small forward - except for the fact that he seems to get overly enthusiastic in F50 sometimes when a high ball comes in and then is nowhere to be seen when it comes to ground

Honestly thought he was just as good last week without the goals, but good to see him kick some at the G nonetheless.
It’s strange, but I’m always happy he kicks a goal so that neutrals see how good he is. You just know somehow that otherwise there are a whole tribe of idiots there saying 7 touches? He’s overrated.

Dreamteam and SuperCoach have turned people into experts on every player, they just look at points and base how good a player is off that. His game last week vs Port was excellent. Set the tone for pressure. You dont get nerd points for that,

Admittedly I was always kinda sceptical of Cyril, but in hindsight can see why he was frothed so much. 10 of his touches would get half a dozen shots on goal, plus the pressure, tackles etc. Kozzy is brilliant with or without the ball in a similar way. Doesn't go on the stats sheet (nor do things like Sparrow's tap to Fritsch) but so important to the team.

Deserves a bump after his weekend. All goals here:

The first 3 are goal of the round worthy; his 5th also very good. He's had some patchy form prior to this but hopefully this is the spark of a good run of form for him. Will be very important come finals to have him in goalkicking and pressuring form.

His form with the ball in hand might have been patchy, but his pressure has never dropped off for mine. Primed for a big finals series though. You just know that he will absolutely tear one apart some year though.

If he’d managed to shrug that tackle the fourth would have been the best of the lot, he’s turned that goal where he wins the ball at half back and somehow wins it back just second later at half forward into an art form.

I love Kozzie but as has already been mentioned previously, he needs to stop flying for marks against our tall forwards and stay down and crumb some goals or even lay some tackles like Elliott last night. It's a difficult role to play but he has all the skill and speed to succeed.

Lol one week
"How awesome was kozzies snaps from the boundary love his excitement"

Next week
"Stop playing with flair, be Spargo"
Yeah I’d cut the bloke some slack because he’s electric around goals. It’s a feast or famine position to play. He’d surely be one of the first picked every week.

Are you saying he's all duck no dinner? Seriously though I agree, you play him because he's a very dangerous player, the opposition have to close check him which essentially means he takes a player out. I don't think we really have anyone that can play his role, but hypothetically you could play someone else you think will add more pressure but it also means the opposition would be less worried about player x because they aren't dangerous around goals. You also are losing a player that takes half opportunities which hurts your scoring.
