Delisted #36: Michael Hartley - Joins Hawthorne via the preseason draft - 29/11

Wow, does not look 199cm in the highlights. Certainly doesn't play like he is 199. Seems quite agile.

Yep. Reading all the reviews too, everybody mentions how he's well equipped to play on all the monsters.

At 22, if he can kick on he could be a great Carlisle replacement and form a really strong partnership with Hurley.

Was rated highly whilst with Collingwopd. Injuries prevented him from going places.

I'll be ecstatic if we've managed to find a KPD almost as good as Carlisle this late in the draft.

Can see it now, Nick Reiwoldt dies of degenerative knees or something, Carlisle is forced to play in attack, gets monstered by Hartley while former pick 5 Parish carves them up through the middle.

A guy I work with who was team mates with harts at coburg cant say a bad word about him. Rates him very highly

Maybe, though it sounds like he's put together two strong seasons in the VFL.

Just sounds a bit too good to be true, but I might be overthinking it.

Recruiters are generally pretty conservative and often loath to pick up recycled players whove already been given a chance.

If they pick up an untried kid and he doesn't work out, well they weren't to know. If they do it with a recycled player, well they really should have known shouldn't they?

They get judged in hindsight enough without giving people that ammunition.

Even with us I think it's taken a real emergency like we had with KPPs to get us to do it. Take a mature KPP. The crisis we had in the area just 48 hours ago may not be completely recognised by all. We had the worst KPP depth in the league by a fair way.

For what we gave up its well worth it IMO. He was the best key back in the VFL this year which already puts him a long way ahead of Steinberg and Pears.

Anyway he's probably the next Harry Taylor. Not too much to ask is it?
