Don't care if they were contested, but he definitely clunked 4 off opposition kicks.

Not that it is overly important but there were three clearly contested marks where he outbodied and outreached smaller players.

He otherwise looked on the pace. His quality with ball in hand looks like it will convert to AFL level.
That's basically the reason I mentioned it. Taking a bunch of intercept marks and none of them being contested seemed a little odd.

That was noticeable at his time with Coburg. His kicking was sublime. Often given kick in duties.

Thought he was excellent, one out on Hawkins is probably the hardest gig in the competition when Geelongs midfield is on top. Probably fits in beside Hooker and Hurley too.

That one he took on him in 1st or 2nd qrt was superb. The look on Hawkins face when he stood the mark was priceless.

Totally out-bodied the giant unit.

Looks the goods.

Speed his main issue at the moment but with much luck in a couple of years can put a bit of muscle on and take the resting ruckman or just zone off, what he lacks in speed he makes up in positioning and commitment to the contest.

He'd be as quick or quicker than Hooker and quicker than Carlisle
He seemed to get beaten on the lead a fair bit, I think he is on par with hooker and Carlisle for speed but both hooker and carlisle are excellent marks and can play at both ends to decent standard. Also take in mind he is 199cm not many guys at that height are quick.

Had a bit more to do with the obsene turnovers we were making just out of defence that left him with no chance to be in position.

Tipping he's the next Scott Thompson (NM) type. Thompson came from Geelong VFL in great VFL form and quickly became a very good afl key defender for north. I could see Hartley retaining full back next year releasing Hurley to CHB or 3rd defender post depending on hooker.

Just quietly, it looks a little like one of the necessary cards has fallen into place this year. For this year to have any success to it, we needed Hartley and Brown to be adequate/good cover for Hooker and Hurley. I'm now reasonably confident that might be the case.
Apart from the ever present injury factor, the other big question mark is that second tier group of Laverde, Langford, J Merrett, Fantasia and Edwards. We need a couple of gun midfielders out of that lot and this year could provide some entertainment...
