Ridiculous footballer, 30 and 3 without seemingly looking like he was trying or playing that well.

If we can solve for the opposition stampeding the ball down his wing because he has no interest in defending it then we are in business

Two weeks in a row he hasn’t come to the bench at all aswell

We don’t deserve him. He’s so good at finding the footy in the front half and we put him at half back all seaosn. Just embarrassing mismanagement of a brilliant footballer

Would happily take a slow Caleb Daniel for a couple of years just to release nic into his natural role

Did you watch last night? Caldwell got dragged down there a few times and got absolutely abused. A defender he is not
He has a hard on for Caldwell to HB. He'll say it till 3 years after he's retired

I'd argue forward half player is what he should be. Wing/midfield/forward-50 and don't come out of that half of the ground.
Definitely has to play forward of centre, so much more damaging there. Also lets Redman run and rebound.

Or we could just play Caldwell there (rotating mid) and bring in a Full sized mid as opposed to our fun size midfield
You're obsessed with playing Caldwell off HB. He'd be wasted there.

I think we disagree on the value of the HB position. I think it’s very important as far as creating good transition attack.

I also think we have too many smalls and it’s hurting our team balance. Trading players for unders is bad value so if any of our smalls can play other positions and allow more of them to play together in a functional system then I’m all for it.

Any time he's in the forward 50, good things happen. The man is so good at kicking for goal off a step in traffic.
This was demonstrated by stark contrast against Sydney in that passage where Caddy hesitated and handballed. It happens every week though and has been happening for years. They have the ball within 30 metres and keep handballing it to each other for a better shot and nothing eventuates. Martin's the only player on the list who is willing to have a shot, let alone able to score a goal from those situations.

As much as I hated seeing him at half-back I suspect it is because we needed his ball use because with Ridley out most of the time you only really have one reliable kick in Redman. Hopefully Archie Roberts can fill the void and Ridley can string some games together which will allow Martin to play on the wing because he is dynamic on the wing.

I don't think anyone disagrees on the value. We just all think your solution is dumb.

This sums it up.

It was not ideal but they needed to get something going off half back. They knew the issue last year which is why they drafted Roberts and Lual . It is why the switched Wanganeen to half back in the VFL and why they took El-Hawi mid season.
We had to rob one part of the ground to try and fix another.

To all those who keep losing their marbles.
There was not premiership on the line.
Personally I think it is a good thing he tried something different.
Martin still has the ability to play wing and half forward. He did not lose that.
Watching Friday night he was actually better defensively on the wing than he was last year.
