Errr, the defender selects which forward he plays on, not the other way around.

You seem to have forgotten more than you know about footy TI. ;)
No the MC select the team and must get their matchups right . If I knew nothing about football it would be still more than you’ll ever know about football 😇

His biggest problem is he is being asked to play third tall forward and he is just not tall enough. Remember when Pickett was being asked to play tall forward and everyone was criticising him. If Dusty wasn’t playing and we played another tall forward, then Cumberland could play as a genuine small forward I think he would be much more dangerous. If Dusty doesn’t play next year then that will be Cumberland last chance to play well in his proper position.

Definitely agree with that. The forward-line was collectively awful on the weekend & thought both KP guys were "bottom 10%" AFL level

This was the entire forward lines output, with a few of these guys rotating in the middle or higher up the ground that allowed them to get more time in play.

Bolton - 1 Goal, 15 touches, 4 tackles
Campbell - 1 Goal, 13 touches, 4 Marks
Mansell - 1 Goal, 12 touches
Kosi - 1 Goal, 12 touches, 5 Marks
Martin - 1 Goal, 13 touches
Lynch - 0 Goals, 4 touches, 2 Marks
Cumberland (3/4) - 4 touches, 0 goals, scores, assist, marks, tackles

The difference between the best and the worst is not a huge amount IMO. And 3 of these names are arguably meant to be our 3 best players ( Martin, Lynch, Bolton ).

The thing that hurt Cumberland on the weekend was a lack of second efforts & a complete inability to get himself involved in barely a play. He had a real stinker for sure & from my perspective, moved himself into the "highly likely" to be cut list. But thats just today. I would play him every week for the remainder of the year and give him as much chances as possible before the season ended. As it stands though, he needs more than a couple of good games to end the year on to save his career.

The top of my shopping list for the off-season is the absolute tippy top forward coach we can find. We have wasted so much talent over the past couple of years with an inability to move on gracefully from the "chaos ball" structure. We are just gross downforward at the moment. I would re-assign Newman to a different role.

Cant say i have seen, heard of even thought of Newman much this year. If he is mastermind behind our current forward gameplan / lineup..... he has had an awful hash at it. Got faith in him tho, but can't say he is killing it as a forward coach so far.

it wasn't an off night . We've struggled to kick a score all season. We have a terrible midfield, and are poorly skilled, unfit, only one tall forward that has returned from injury, too slow, too small and lots of list cloggers. Every forward was going to struggle to get a kick yesterday, with our midfield and poor and slow exits out of the BL. Changes need to be made, but i suspect it will just be musical chairs as our list is rubbish. only players that could've made a difference yesterday were, MRJ, LeFau, Ross and possibly Hopper, but he's slow and would need to replace JGTI otherwise we would be slower. Excuses are over it's clean out time otherwise another season will be wasted.
it was an off night but i agree with everything you said. we are in serious trouble if we dont trade and reload for the next five years

Wait, so an unaccountable stat padding half back flanker is our forwards coach? Well shit that might explain a few things...:$

Isn’t Teague our forwards coach? Pretty sure Newman and Ziebell look after the midfield

ha another guy who spent his career as a stopping defender
Heh he was too....must be working on the theory that they know all the defender's tricks so they can teach the forwards how to beat them...or something....worked well with Leppa I guess....

It’s ok , but five weeks in a row? That’s rubbish and it’s like putting Dow on Gawn. Sorry you’re Cumberland bashing here as you match players up so where they became a strength to your team and not give the opponent an advantage and try and kick it to their advantage and not so they have to defend in the air favouring their height. 😜
His ground attributes were limited bc our kicking in the FL was bewildering to say the least. Lynch was even frustrated with it.
Let’s blame 3 coaches, midfielders, lack of opportunity, injury, the game plan and anything else you can think of. You are claiming I’m player bashing because I point out his shite performances. Then I must be a Cumbo hater/basher because I hate the fact he gets a game. I also cannot believe that you and others can not see this bloke is the ultimate list clogger. There are other younger players who should be given some senior opportunity before this non contributing spud. I keep hearing you bleating about the lack opportunity for him, so when he gets the arse this week from the seniors, do we have to listen to you crying foul again? Are you telling us that he doesn’t deserve be dropped? I’d rather trial our mid season draftees than waste games on this bloke.

king cum stinking it up

can always guarantee his direct opponent will take some ridiculous amount of intercept marks each week

CUMBERSQUAT REIGNS SUPREME
What are you 10 years old? Criticise him for his play, but don't belittle him with stupid nicknames.
The bloke tries his guts out every game, please show him some respect.

Have to shake my head at some of the excuses offered up for Noah. We select him to play the role we want him to play. The opposition adjusts their match ups to ensure they get the right defender on Noah knowing they can exploit it. Even when we try and make changes like putting Noah as the deepest forward the opposition simply adjust the match up so that they maintain their advantage and Noah doesn't seem capable of making the adjustment to the new role or working hard enough to work his opponent over.

They could adjust as much as they like because none of our forwards were a threat. Our midfield wasn’t a threat . No one had much of a game except for Taranto and his possessions aren’t often damaging which isn’t his role etc.

The point is that there is an assumption that we're getting the match ups wrong in our forward line, which is wrong, the opposition are getting their match ups right knowing that Cumberland is a weak link when it comes to being defensively accountable and isn't really a threat offensively unless the game is on our terms.

He needs to work out how to impact the game in both areas, because you can't just get by being an offensive threat unless you're truly elite in that regard and even then those players are still disciplined enough to be defensively sound.

So Lynch didn’t kick 7 because Cumberland played and not some other scrawny pick 75.
Our mid field is way off the mark for starters.. that’s where the pressure on opposition back men comes from . Last person I’m thinking about is our half forward flanker who when we are having a good day should only be getting it a hand full of times and maybe kicking a couple.

If your million dollar men aren’t a threat then you can put your gun backman on anybody you like . Is probably my point

Ps .should have drafted Pink .

I never said anything about him not being dropped, but more about his matchups recently. I would drop him with about four other blokes. I also said he would be on the train to Maroochydore next year.

Cumberland gets off scott free more than any player since Sydney Stack.

If Cumberland performance is critiqued in a negative way the posters are labelled 'Hate Police'.

Cumberland should be doing better than he is considering how long he has been at the club.
Cumberland gets off scott free?
He is the most criticised player on our list, and much of it deserved. There are plenty here who criticise Cumberland, but do it in a constructive way.
Cumberland should do better, I think that is something we all agree on. He has to the end of the season, if he comes good, good, if he doesn't he will be delisted. He is a tease because he can make things happen from nothing, hence the pro fans, but he better get cracking. There is a good chance he will be dropped this week. I wouldn't mind seeing Grey given a shot, he is good in the air and mobile, perfect third tall.
