Fair enough but needless to say given his age and contract status I fear if Cumbo can’t find some rare form and finish the year with a wet sail, along with showing some significant work on the parts of his game he struggles with I don’t know if he will be an AFL listed player next season

If it’s fair or not will just need to be up for the individual to decide
Fair enough.

I just don't think Cumbo is suited to where we're at right now. He's a bit of a downhill skiier and struggles to work himself into the game if we're not winning.

I know they don't play the same position but would love him to mould the second half of the year on what HRS has been able to do. Even when HRS isn't having big games offensively, he has been able to make an impact defensively by running hard and getting to contests. If Cumbo can start to adopt that attitude a bit more we might have something.

Cumberland running to impact a contest, more chance of being shat upon by Dumbo
The games I've been at live when he's been olaythis year I was quite imwith his running to try and pressure.
The problem is that he has let his man get free in the first place and then usually gets there too late to have any real effect.
I think he is too eager to get out the back and when we inevitably turn the ball over up the ground or can't kick properly to his advantage that his man then is free to run up the ground to receive the ball or intercept the kick that doesn't get to him.

Seems a pointless argument. He has the rest of the year to make the grade. So far this year he has shown glimpses only, for one reason or another. If he continues that way, he will be dropped.

It's pretty simple. He deserves a good look at, and he will not play the same every week as he has shown, but he has to show improvement from now until the end of the season whether in the AFL or VFL.

I think he adds such a unique goal kicking ability he’s worth persisting with, but very much needs to improve those one on ones further up the ground. In his current role, opppsition teams will just continue to put tall rebounding defenders on him and until he learns to be more competitive against them that problem is not going to go away. I worry that last week really knocked the wind out of his sails as he got well and truly pantsed and dropped his head. How he responds in the remaining games he plays this year will be the make or break for him

On a spectrum, Bolton is lauded by many as our most talented player and our best match winner, now that Dusty isn't peak Dusty.

At the other end of the spectrum Cumberland is the most criticised player as being a hack and is first on the list to be cut.

Yet at 23 odd games Cumberland is ahead of Bolton in many metrics and not far behind in others.

I posted up the stats about a week or 2 ago and the haters avoided responding to it like the plague. Funny that!
I coped the hate when I pointed out what a concern it os that Bolton is our most talented player. I did call him a down hill skier which in hind sight was inaccurate and a bit unfair, he is more a cream player, the sort that can tear a team apart after the reliable players do the grunt work.
I don't know about stats, but I certainly feel like Bolton has always looked more dangerous around the ball than Cumberland ever has. Competes extremely well in the air and can win his own ball at ground level and look dangerous when he has it in hand, (just stuff it up atrociously way too often).
Most highlights I can think of for Cumberland is him getting goals out the back or a smart shark of a ruck contest and a lucky free early against the Crows.

he's got talent but he's a nervous dude. needs to build confidence in himself and the best way to build confidence is through experience. reckon hes one of those players that will just click once he sorts the above the shoulders stuff out. hes similar to george in a lot of ways but he hasnt got the complete lack of skill that george had.

Its a snapshot of 25 games not going back to the jurassic period. His average says the kid can play. We have managed him horribly his entire career.
I don't disagree with the sentiment that he can play. What I have an issue with is that unless a lot goes his way his impact is limited.

beema limapep named games that he has had an 'impact' in above. Most of them were 2022, when our season was going well and Noah was up and about as a result. Since then, he has been quite limited in terms of his impact most of his games. His stats may look ok, but his actual impact as a forward hasn't been great as the team has struggled.

That is what I've mentioned that he needs to find a way to continue to be involved when things aren't going his way.

He trying and he’s got talent. What else you farken want carrrrrnts :drunk:

For his opponent to not be best on ground every week. Besides the Crows game, pretty sure his opponent has been BOG or close to (receiving coaches votes)

Exactly. Why did he play just one game swinging the middle in the VFL. Should have been there every week developing an all round game.
It was only the second half at Werribee ... Banks and Green also would benefit from some centre bounces at VFL level to prepare them for success at the next level

They did it a few times with MRJ last season as well. Might as well add Graham, MacIntosh did it and seems to have magically switched him on somewhat since his return. Here's a radical idea, do it with all long term injured players. Lynch could sure have done with a run in the ressies, he wasn't much chop first game back. Hopper... call me old fashioned.

If Cumberland is dropped then I think his career is over at Tigerland.
If that is the case, he's likely done. After his performance against the Hawks it's hard to see him not being dropped.

Not necessarily. Go back find form and wait for an opening. Dominates the VFL, then he'll be back. Good players dominate lower levels, if they are good enough.
If they're fair with their selections. Cumbo was smashing the VFL for a while there and didn't even make emergency. MRJ and Banks etc were getting games off way worse form in the 2's ahead of him.

Selections are not just based on how they perform on the stat sheet in the VFL. Teams don't just hold grudges and not pick the guy that's 'playing' better just because they feel like it. There are actual reasons that you don't see unless you're inside the club.

It doesn't matter if he is in 'better form' is he doesn't follow instructions or doesn't know the gameplay well enough or doesn't play defensively or straight up just doesn't have a good attitude. Theres a bit more required then just kicking goals if you want a game
