Speaking of respect to the broadcaster, I'll happily keep streaming AFL games through livetv.sx/en/ rather than pay to support the AFL and broadcasters extracting value from existing supporters at the expense of the future of the game.

They can gagf.

same clown has the herald sun on the 360 desk fumbling and flicking thru articles and letting punters know about exclusives and pumping up his tyres and his employers about another non football gossip story. can't wait til caro/jake niall (The age) gets first crack when dusty is up for a chat. robbo's head will explode.
Haven't watched 360 in years, not giving him or gonzo any time.

Seriously?

I get that we probably can't put a career long media ban on anyone talking to Dusty, but how ******* senseless to criticise this on his first game back given the reasons he was out?

Like FFS, such a vulture. How about easing the guy in and respecting he's probably still recovering? Rather than than the personal questions that no doubt would have come.

And exactly one week ago he was having a crack at Chris Scott. Robbo said “if you don’t want to be there and do the interview just say no thanks, not today”
Hypocrite.

Edit. When has Dusty even given more than a bland, deflecting to the boys, fans etc answer?
The only reason fathead wanted him on camera was to hopefully see an emotional response to a personal prod about his deceased father.
Disgraceful.

DISLIKES

1. Dusty no-go

While Gillon and Co are in the States entertaining TV rights offers from global media giants – the most recent publicly disclosed deal was worth $2.5 billion – it’s ironic that the most fascinating name in football won’t talk to the media. Can you imagine the Yank TV execs (their brethren demand NBA players play on Christmas Day, mind you) being told they’ll need to cough up $3 billion for the rights but by the way the game’s best player won’t talk to you when you need him to? That’s what happened with Fox Footy on Saturday. The station contacted Richmond last week and said they’d like to talk to Martin before or after the game. The Tigers warned Fox that Martin wouldn’t talk. On the day, Martin was approached by Sarah Jones on the ground post-siren, where Martin waved her off, and then Nick Riewoldt, a mate of Martin’s, went down to Tigers rooms post-match, where he asked a Tigers media person to ask Martin for two minutes to answer two Dorothy Dixers. Like, what was it like to be back? Any message for the fans? It’s not known if said media person even asked Martin. It’s a funny world. The AFL is asking for billions and will get it, the players will ask for a billion in salaries and will get it – both paid by the TV rights – and yet Fox Footy asks for a minute and they get told no. You can understand why Martin would avoid a lengthy sit-down interview, but once you step on the ground, you can’t pick and choose. There are obligations to the broadcaster and to the game.

There is a mountain made out of poor pieces of journalism that has grown over the past decade or so… this has just planted a flag on the summit!

There is a straightforward answer Dusty would have to this nonsense. If Foxtel don’t want to pay $3b for the rights that don’t include him being made to speak to camera, then don’t. It is as simple as that.

As for the bolded part. There are two very wrong elements to that.

1. none of these clowns have been referring to him as the games best player recently and we constantly see lists of top 5 players on Poxtel without his name on the list, while Cripps and whatever other kickchasers got 30 touches or 5 goals that week dominate the lists. Suddenly when it suits their argument he is the game’s best player again. fu** off germs.

2. “won’t talk when you need him to?” Won’t perform like a captive seal upon your command would be more like it. Have some respect for people Foxtel ffs. The same person has happily spoken to camera for you post game in the past and also done an exclusive in depth interview with Nick Riewoldt. And this is the thanks he gets. And then we have to listen to the self-aggrandising clowns say we think we have respected his privacy when requested. Request an interview, fine, then accept the response with respect.
Brilliant post MR

If Sarah Jones and foxtel want respect
Well then how about doing some funking research
Trent cotchin is not our captain any more ( Sarah seems to think he is )
Nank and grimes are our co captains if anyone at foxtel is paying attention
It's 2022 not 2021
As for Robbo go funking your self you funking scroffa

Caro to her credit was respectful and understood that he can get a pass for the moment and it's not essential he talks week 1. Defended him on Footy Classified.
Nice she stuck up for him through the whole chopsticks scandal as well

Robbo carrying on about no access to Martin, what a hypocrite.

When his ticker gave way last year there was no story about it, no mention or explanation. Certainly on fox.

Media went to ground - no doubt as per his request.

So what's the difference?

When he came back on air he gave his story - albeit far too long winded with Wheatley.

The fool went and filled his car up with petrol as he was having a heart attack. What a nong!

This storm in a teacup doesn't even make sense from its own logic. What makes Dusty interesting - so interesting that they want to interview him? Number one of course is what he does on the football field. A long way down to number second is that he has a unique look and an interesting background. Third would be the fact that he is shy as f*#k and is apparently a gentle soul inside the tough exterior. Number 3 is enhanced by his unwillingness to do the media circus. If he suddenly fronted and did the normal bland, cliche-ridden interview, it would actually DETRACT from his "brand" and make him (and the game) less marketable. I love Cotch, but I wish he was more like Dusty in this regard, as I find his scripted responses to interview questions as painful as pulling teeth. TBH the only player I like being interviewed is Jack Riewoldt, as he usually speaks his mind and has something of substance to say. This also calls to mind one of our present captains. Which would you prefer (purely from an entertainment perspective) Nank giving the standard responses to an interview as he did recently on (I think it was) AFL360, or Nank blanking "Roving Brian" with an angry stare like a cartoon villain?

I get speaking to the media if you are the captain or the coach that is a responsibility of the role, but dusty isn't either of those and has never been forthcoming toward the media
