Does this guy ever quit?? Where gonna hear another year speculation aren't we...
If Martin does leave it'll be hilarious watching McClure then do a victory lap. After 4yrs, 100 more games played at Richmond and him sounding like a complete dumbass, little Sammy finally got it right. 34yo Dustin Martin will play 1 season at the GC. well done Sam

It felt so weird when Hardwick said "He's [Dusty] going to stay at Richmond, which is an enormous positive for that footy club". Doesn't look like his exit has properly sunk in for me yet as I kinda felt sad watching that. Hardwick being next to Cotchin adds to that too. Oh well, we move on.
I got the impression Hardwick did attempt to convince Martin to play at suns but understood he is committed to Richmond.

Nah I reckon he'll play out his time at Richmond. Balme said he's not the type of bloke who would want a new start with new people. He's very loyal, Cotchin and Balme have said this previously.
I hope he stays for sure too . I’m only thinking maybe he wants a life style change away from the mrlb bubble of footy etc .

he has his whole life to live out of the bubble, staying and playing for another 2-3 years will be no different to what he has experienced in his life so far, and he's seemed pretty happy up until now.

It's just an easy grab for journos

He’d be silly to not at least ask the question. Not sure how his contract is structured but if he’s still on a $1m next year not sure how the suns would fit him in. Could have been a discussion on him coming into free agency after next year. Or he might stay - he has all the cards.

Hate to see him play at another club but that’s life if he goes. Couldn’t have done more for the club.

He'll finish at Richmond and then retire, how the media have kept this up for 10 years is beyond me. Time they went and attacked some other player from one of the other clubs, amazing how Cripps, Pendles, Hawkins etc haven't been yearly attacked about leaving.

He sells clicks. Had a 7 year deal you’d think that’d be the end of it.

I think it’s ok to speculate what might happen post his current contract though.

It's because:
a) Dusty ignores them and the story grows legs, their name gets attached to story and more exposure.
b) Dusty responds and the insignificant gerbils gets satisfaction that they coerced the great man to go against his principles and actually talk to them. Next thing he's harassed left right and center about everything from his Dad to who he's dating.

The media would love nothing more than full access to the players like the NFL where anyone with journalist accreditation can ask them ridiculous questions. You can see online videos of journalists from like a gay magazine asking players or actors their sexuality or thoughts on gay marriage. It's clearly to get a response. Some players are clearly devout Christians from the South and blind Freddie knows their true thoughts but if they express those thoughts their contract would be torn up along with all their media endorsements.

Imagine if Australian athletes were contractually obliged to talk to the media under penalty of fines. Israel Folau, those Manly players would be harassed by scum media looking for a scalp. It's bad enough watching journo's go after underperforming coaches when there's blood in the water. Imagine if they could go after fit young players in their prime week in week out trying to get them to say something outside the party line. Morality clauses would have their contracts shredded before it's on the 6 o'clock news.

If Richmond are sh*te in 2024 he probably will leave in 2025, and why wouldn’t he? He can do an Isaac Smith and try and get a 4th flag (and a 4th Norm). No much point hanging around a rebuilding club as a 33-34yo superstar - I can’t imagine just racking up another 40-games without finals will float his boat.

But if Richmond are looking like contenders and he likes the new coach then he’ll probably stay and get a new 2-year deal during 2024 season.

Either way, watching him play his 300th in Yellow and Black was a big thing for me … I could cope if he left in 2025 if that’s what he wants.

Exactly. Anyone in that situation would at least try, I'm pretty sure players who have friends in different teams would jokingly or cheekily say hey come play for us. But that doesn't mean it means the earth has crashed. In reality though dusty is fully committed to us and doesn't wanna leave.

The old saying. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Really sums up AFL "journalism" nowadays. These guys all make shit up constantly, never get called out on it or forced to retract statements, then when invariably one of their wild predictions come true, they live off that for their next failed 100. It's all part of the clickbait media revolution where the content of an article is irrelevant, rather, it's about making people click on the link which generates ad revenue and lets these grubs get paid. McClure, Cornes the worst of them.

It's funny how guys that switch late are more likely to tarnish rather than enhance their legacy.

Mitchell, Hodge and Lewis I feel was a waste for them playing for other clubs. Mitchell the worst, Lewis I sort of get her got the tap but felt he had more to give and Hodge whilst he did well at Brisbane, he should have just done one year extra at Hawthorn and called time.

Isaac Smith is about the only one I think who has actually gone up a notch by leaving and winning another flag. Franklin as well enhanced his legacy by switching and having such a long career at the Swans.

If Dusty goes to GC and wins them at flag then that's about the only way that he can exceed status he already has.

Or takes a giant salary and is the cause of them having to fold in a couple years time. That’d cement him as the goat
