Having a foil at Full Forward like Liam Jones - allows Casboult to move further up the ground as well.

Jones might only take 1 in 4 attempts at a high mark, but opposing sides need to keep one of their key defenders on him.

This means slight less pressure on Casboult, and if sides decide to double team Casboult it means that Jones's task is a little easier.

Lots of talk about "Casboult should be dropped" around here. I notice there was even a thread started about it. Rightfully short lived...
Maybe some perspective is needed on the Levi discussion...
Let's say that Casboult misses two "certainties" per game. Yes, everyone would prefer he kicks them, but the net gain of having him in the side is far greater than twelve points.
When our defenders need a "get out" kick down the line, who's there to take a big pack mark and relieve the pressure?
When the ball is banged deep into our forward line, who attracts 3 or 4 opposition backmen, allowing us free players?
Who crashes packs and sits opposition players on their arse, time after time?
Who leads up the ground and gives the ball carrier a strong and safe target?
Who runs himself into the ground and lays bone crunching tackles?
The answers to the above questions are:
Levi.
Levi.
Levi.
Levi.
And Levi.

Casboult, adds significant value to our side. We all wish his kicking for goal was better, but the two or so goals we miss out on are far outweighed by the positives he brings.
I think it's time people started putting more thought into the game and the team, rather than taking the easy, simplistic, a little ignorant view that "Casboult misses goals, drop him"....
Gee Coach, given what Levi did on the weekend, you nailed it!

For all the flak that Everitt cops, he also takes a fair bit of pressure off Levi. Is good on the lead and can kick straight. Can also draw a defender up the ground. Should leave Cas one out more often and allows him to float into packs from the side when they go for another target like we saw a few times on the weekend. I'd like to stick with Levi, Jones and Everitt for a little while and see what happens. Kicked 7 and had 21 marks between them. I realise Jones doesn't rack up the stats and it would be nice if he got involved in a few more contests, but happy to let him build something. If not, Jaksch can take his spot.

Casboult should always be a chf and relief ruckman who runs deep into the forward line on the counter attack. This allows him to contest/mark outside 50 and deliver forward or mark inside 20m on the counter and hit the scoreboard.

That way if he takes say 3 marks within 20m distance and sprays 2 (which is less likely from the distance) then its only costing us 2 goals a game but we are still kicking goals through other avenues. no sole reliance.

Calls for him to be dropped weren't correct, calls for him not be our full forward were.

Thrilled for Levi that he kicked that key goal. Really sealed the game for the Blues and would have done him the world of good.

He has legit AFL size, AFL hands.... OK, he's an awful kick (really), but he has a role to play at this level. Had to love the collision between him and Reid late in the game which (surprise!) resulted in Reid getting injured. Levi runs into <X>, <X> gets hurt. In a stronger side, he'd be ideal second or third forward as back-up ruckman I think. In our team he's our #1 forward (like... clearly...:$) which I think is asking too much, but good on him.

Like everyone else, he plays until he's replaced by someone better - and in Levi's case I think that means he has plenty of footy left.

Fixed. His field kicking is fine.

My 2 bob is he drops it from too high and from too far forward and kicks it hard and high hoping it keeps its line. Kicking is very much like golf. If you're running out of the backline and want to kick it long you pull out the driver, ball forward and kick up and through to get the distance and forego accuracy. (Casboult) If you're kicking to a lead (or the green), you lower the head, ball off the front heal or just behind and you drive it through the air and keep it lower. (Goddard). If you're in front of goal you set your alignment, guage the power and club required, and follow through to the target (Lockett). Cas in my opinion needs to spot someone or something behind the goal and kick the ball to land on top of that. To me he simply fires away and hopes it goes high and straight. I played FF in the bush and I used to pick a car or spectator behind the goal and try and land it on the roof or knock to a 'lead'. Ball drop was low and I used to drive through to the car or person. If I was well out, I kicked it to land on the goal umpires head. Kicked 63.12 one year - just saying.
I said years ago that he needs to pick out someone in the crowd to kick it to. That's how an old friend's brother used to tell me how to kick for goal... and he did ok for himself back in the day.

Plonk Little 'Double Cobra' Levi in front of the level 2 bar and tell Cas they are just having a friendly kick to kick... :)

I reckon when Levi is full forward he puts immense pressure on himself knowing the full forwards job is to kick goals. Don't kick goals would equal failure and increase the self doubt. Whereas playing up the ground taking big marks is something he knows he can do well so he puts a lot less pressure on himself. He can then wander closer to goal knowing that's not his main role. Less pressure, more enjoyment playing footy and he seemed like he was really enjoying his footy on Saturday.

Geez, the guy kicks three goals against the bottom side but the reality is that he is not in the top ten forwards in the AFL. Without other strings to his bow he has to bring that game to the table every week. Bare minimum.
