Banks, Clarke and Sonsie all uncontested fringe players. Our recruiting team look like they've butchered that draft completely.
Breaking news.

Undersized 2nd year players playing outside roles have low contested ball numbers!

Who would of thought

Any mid who has finished top 20 in the Brownlow in the last 25 years
Got any numbers to back that up?

Not even Nick D who is one of if not the best mids drafted in the past decade has amazing contested ball numbers and he was actually drafted as a midfielder and was a brownlow fancy in his 2nd year

I think Sonsie gets his fair share of the ball around the contest. He is not your first hands on it type, but he gets his fair of it in tight, especially in his first year. It's fairly normal for young mids in particular, to struggle with the rigours of coming up against seasoned big bodied midfields week in week out. Even the big bodied ones line the Hawks Newcomb or Worpel took a few years. Dow did his time in the VFL this season and benefited from it, so did Sonsie by the end of the season, much tougher in the clinches.

Banks is a wing half back who puts his head over it when needed. Clarke is a bit of an outlier because he is so light, so he might take the longest, but he is classy and knows where the goals are.

If Yze wants a quick forward entry game plan I think it will suit Sam. Play him as a small forward and lets see what we've got. Next two yaears will tell us a lot - dud delist / servicable / weapon and interable part

Made great decisions with the ball yesterday but didn’t get involved as much as I was hoping. I think he did as much as he could with the amount of game time he got in the end.

Still plenty to like about Sam. Looked to be more assertive at the higher level and put himself into better positions to be used.
Went head to head with Demons number 6(?) pick for a lot of the game.

His penetrating kicks combined with his run and carry is the best we have for the wing spot, should play all year. Macca and Pickett can fight it out for the other wing and after yesterday its Picketts to lose

They will go after both Banks & Seth in 3 years time

Incoming picks 1 & 2

Ohh didn’t realise Seth was also from Tasmania …. But yes we must make them pay a kings ransom in draft picks if they want them
Surely if Gale is the CEO he wouldn’t be against Tassie paying overs if it also helps his old flame

I think our Tas selections have been strategic ones , clubs will be well compensated for those that go back , Seth had a tough upbringing I wonder whether he’d prefer a new life in Melb , time will tell

I'm not concerned yet, I will be concerned if by end of this year he isn't either a) cracked into the best 22 or b) one of our "bests" in the VFL most weeks.

He needs to be one or the other heading into year 4 next year. Same goes for the others from the 2021 draft (excluding Gibcus :'()

Basically if it's not this year, next year those guys need to be best 22 AFL players, nothing less for picks around that 30 mark.

Is 4 years the magic number ? I dont expect anything from a pick 29 tbh the odds arent great

McIntosh was pick 31 when we drafted him in 2012, Going by that train of thought he should have been shipped off after 2016.

I'm not sure why all our picks have to be superstars. McIntosh's skill level isn't as good as Banks and Kamdyn was an important piece in 2 of our 3 flags.
