Player Watch #44: Tyson Stengle [TIGER NO MORE!]

Was just looking up the 2004 national draft, 2005 pre season draft and rookie draft to have a look at where Eddie Betts went given young Stengles love of the bloke but couldn't help have a butchers at what Richmond did with all their 4 picks that year... Absolute disaster, outside of Delidio at no.1 we chose an incredible amount of players with high picks that never went on to do anything. The easy thing is to say that draft class were all busts, the deeper question is how poor was the coaching/state of the club those young guys had to submit too???

Looks a great pick.

Thing I love right now is that our major squad weaknesses have been addressed. Inside mids, outside run and carry, small forwards. Tyson looks really good quality for a rookie pick. Just small really. Seems strong enough to stand up in the tackle, so I'm happy with that.

We have enough talent in small forwards to go for now. Add talls next year and we have almost rebuilt the list for the next 5-8 years. Just pick talent - whether that's speed and kicking, monster grunt or marking etc. We have gone for guys that are outstanding I their role this year. Hopefully they can mature as the least as AFL players in their roles.

As for the stuff about the number of talls on list. Always remember to add the non-AFL players playing VFL. We can have 2-4 players that are mature guys to help out youngsters, or just early 20's fill ins that hope to show enough to get picked up. You shouldn't have extra talls on the list. They take spots and without injuries cannot be moved into the AFL even if they are killing it in the VFL. You need your 6 taller types + 1 ruck minimum for the AFL. Then you need backup and developing players. So around 12 talls makes sense. Depending on the list situation you might want about 15/16. But you'd only do that if you expect to lose 3/4 soon and want replacements that have been in the system.

Was going to go into this in depth but thought you know what i cant be bothered anymore. If people can not learn from all the mistakes of the past they never will.
Besides i dont want to spoil the optimism after all this is the only time of the yr that most supporters will get to show genuine hope.

Anyway its enough for me the business has been done we have what we have see you all in the new year wont be posting till then where we will find out what has been addressed and what hasnt.
Just to finish i strongly believe we have once again in this off season taken the wrong fork in the road and im not sure i can or even want to keep doing this yr after yr.
At some stage the club and many supporters need to show they are learning from mistakes and imo that just aint happening.
Any way see ya all later enjoy the rest of the off season have a good xmas and happy new yr.

Don't take 99% of what tigs2010 posts to heart because he is the site's satire expert!:D

That's not satire. It's just blatant racism no matter how pretty you want to wrap it. And btw, don't tell me what I should or shouldn't take to heart. Thanks.

I thought this place was moderated.

Its pretty simple equation especially if you have two teams and you are trying to mirror what you do in the ones with the twos.
You need 8 kpps which amounts to 4kp defenders 4 kp forwards.
you need 4 third talls which amounts to 2 third tall defenders and 2 third tall forwards.
Obviously all age and development areas need to be covered ie juniors, development, mature, vets,
You then need two pure rucks and 2 ruck/fwds making for a total of 16 talls on your list. WHen building a list or searching for talls this number can be even higher. This number gives a club some leeway as well when it comes to those who make it and those who dont.
That leaves 28 list spots to accomodate for mids and flankers it is more than enough.
Quite obviously this is done over a number of years.

TW i take it Terry Wallace? is clearly wrong when he says we have too many talls. We are critically low on talls and have a real lack of quality ones apart from two bookends Rance and Riewoldt.
What amazes me is blind fred can see and knows this yet this utter failure when it comes to lists and list management is quoted.

Yes I understand this, but this is the ideal using AFL quality talls. My point was with 18 teams all wanting to do this, the quality is simply not there. That was my only point. You could fill the numbers no problem, but that isn't worth it if they will never make it. I also agree with you ie with TW.

Wallace was probably referring to when we were trying to play Ty and Griff in the team at the same time.
It wasn't working but that was probably due to our crap ball movement, not having too many talls.
Actually he was referring to why we had too many talls on our list and not enough smaller players, however this was last year.

Wouldn't be the first or probably the last time I make an ass out of myself. Rookie mistake. I don't know everybody here.

My original point still stands. It wb good to see people making solid footy points without the need to resort to casual racism (or the coarse sexism that's also rife here).

I can take a joke as well as anybody but that sort of stuff gets left behind in school. I thought we'd moved beyond that in 2016. I guess not everybody is a gentleman any more.

Anyway. Welcome Tyson Stengle.
