Was terrible yesterday. Not sure if he’s been affected by that early season concussion, but appeared to be avoiding contact in marking contests. I don’t remember him being like that last year, I actually thought we might have unearthed a solid KPD.
Don’t think we should get too frustrated with his performances though, he’s a bit of a long shot, if these guys end up being long term players, it’s a bonus.
Hoping we’ve got one in Lefau, who like Young, only started playing AFL in his early mid teens

dunno it was an avalanche out of the middle for them.. too much pressure on our whole backline.

Suns game: King and Lukcioius slowed down once our mids started breaking even. Carlton KPFs were well matched.
Port game: Port KPFs did well
Saints KPFs quiet
Eagles 191 Waterman kicks 6. 3rd KPF Who was on him? Broad, Brown.

Young was mainly on Waterman for his first 4-5 goals.

Agreed, our midfield made it difficult for our defenders yesterday, but he gave their forwards far too much space and wasn’t anywhere near physical enough in marking contests.

I thought Miller, who hasn’t always been the greatest contested defender, showed a lot more intent than Young.

But It is easy to sit at home and be critical, we’ve got no idea what’s going on with these guys -injuries, illness etc.. everyone is entitled to a bad day. I Mentioned his concussion a couple of weeks ago in a previous post, that sort of thing can linger

The bloke showed nothing last year either. Not sure what anyone sees in him. We have no choice but to stick with him but I can’t see him being a long term AFL player with his deficiencies

He has a lot of work to do bc he’s caught flat footed and refuses to put his body into his opponent.

Hes no good, his intensity is horrendous

his krptonite is his man dropping quickly behind him and the kicker has been tasked with pre-empting this

it completely bamboozles him, might be a niggle more likely inexperience

he either adds a string to his bow and trains it and works this out or his numbers will stay 24 instead of 23

always believed still do but less confident on this years work

effectively its his 2nd year blues time, been worked out and has to match the attention by getting better

I have watched Young very closely last year and this. His recent efforts have been tough viewing but they bare no resemblance to the way he played last year. Which leads me to believe something in his body is probably not quite right.
Was he dropped last year and IF IF IF so then he had issues and he still needs to solve them bc they've multiplied now.

He is about the same level as Will Thursfield. And i say that as somone who rated Will Thursfields defensive ability, but know he ultimately failed as a project

He had an ok start to the season but has dropped off a cliff since Waterman kicked a bag on him.

He gives away some awful free kicks, seems to panic and just tackle his opponent while the ball is in the air. Probably just a VFL player.

Gibcus or Balta his natural replacement with Miller showing some good signs, particularly the last couple of weeks under heavy pressure.

Prime Rance would look s**t playing on the oppos best forward in this team.
Rance had other tricks in his bag though, would intercept and go on piercing runs down the ground and hit up a player. Hurt them the other way. Young just panics and goes the full body grope or shanks it directly to an oppo player on the 50 line.

True, but Young is more your Astbury type. My point was, we cant judge defenders too harshly at the moment.

How about Prime Astbury would look like poo in this team then?

Yeah Astbury wouldn't have been half the player he was without the synergy and trust he had with the other boys like Grimes and Rance. Like Miller atm he'd be trying to cover his opponent and everyone else's.

You can still be more discerning than that. Often when all Young needs to do is play back shoulder and defend he finds a way to give an obvious free kick away. Has made more than a few errors with ball in hand too.
