As the commentator noted, when he is kicking (from 45m) the ball is clearing the goals by a fair distance - that is a lot of power in the legs. That first one shows serious acceleration. Hopefully forward lines open up a bit more in the future love seeing a fast leading full forward. Maybe if msd is a week later and he kicks another bag in the WAFL he is going at 1.WAFL Showreel, R7: Jaiden Hunter highlights

We now have 2 developing KPF. The other one is injured. Bryan is a developing ruck.I am encouraged by all the positive comments about this guy, but surely our list needs more running types, and ideally creative off half back types (ala Hind of 2021). We have so many talls on our list. I dont claim to be an expert on list structures and talls take longer etc but how many can you have. 2MP is almost back. Weid seemed to be recruited as cover or different option to Jones and that has worked. Baldwin was supposed to be a forward who seemed to get pushed to VFL defence due to injuries to Reid and Cox.
We will have Hayes, Cox, Monty, Baldwin (surely he has to play forward again) and McBride? in a very tall VFL defence (with Reid to come back), Bryan and Flipper in ruck and forward (cos once 2MP is back, its the end of 2 rucks) plus Voss, Jorgenson (VFL listed)? and not sure who else as tall(ish) up forward.
We have no developing AFL listed players in the VFL to play midfield, wing, half back with the upcoming exception of Tsatas. Plus the VFL side loses Narkle (good for him). Wanganeen and Munkara are only ever going to be forward pocket types, same for Daveyx2 for a couple of years at least, Lord will get cut at end of year. And those that will struggle to be best 22 players are the likes of Walla, Snelling, maybe Guelfi, D'Ambrosio, of which only D'Ambrosio is anything other than a small forward.
Put another way, the only players in development seem to be key position defenders and small forwards. Maybe that means we need to develop a KPF but I would have thought priorities lie elsewhere. Kicking a score hasn't been our problem.

Hobbs, Caldwell, Tsatas are developing mids… they’re not playing in the VFL because they’re playing in the AFL with injuries to Setterfield, Shiel and Parish, or are injured themselves.
We could do with another wing, another mid and some small defenders… the rest need time to see if they make it, and some better luck with injury.
If we had better role players/depth that aren’t injured, perhaps the kids would be playing VFL
Your right, id say we have more than the average and probably not many moving end of year outside Mcbride (Delisted), Stewart (Hopefully Retires, but can still sit on his contract).I am encouraged by all the positive comments about this guy, but surely our list needs more running types, and ideally creative off half back types (ala Hind of 2021). Any reason he didn’t get picked in the national draft?
We have many needs, and until tonight another developing key forward was one. I’d rather we fill that need this way than embarrass ourselves overpaying for a big name free agent (or worse, emptying our pockets and trading for one), who then commands a best 22 spot by dint of their salary instead of their form, ability or work ethic.Hence, why I am a bit surprised we went after yet another tall but it is MSD so limited options.
I thought naughton with less aerial jumping, but I see what you meanLeads in similar way to Jezza, sticky hands, good kicking action, can kick from outside 50 off a step. Not bad of a pick up, has all the tools to push for a spot/create selection pressure if he works hard and the body is right.
Our history of developing talls is also a reason to go cheap and wide with selectionsWe have many needs, and until tonight another developing key forward was one. Players acquired by SSP, mid-season picks, and bargain bin trades seem to have better attitudes and a bit more grit than those who dominate all through juniors and get the easier ride into AFL. And if it doesn’t work out, then they’re also easier to cut from the list.
Bonus point because people who actually watch U18s seem to like him.
And the rest I think this selection is a fairly strong indicator of what they think Reid, Cox, Baldwin, etc will become (not forwards). Our history of developing talls is also a reason to go cheap and wide with selections
2mp and zerk at the cost of 2x 4th rd picks have our bookends in good stead.
This kid and baldwin at chf and chb would just be lol
All I'm reading is "Future Coleman medalist"As to why he wasn’t picked up sooner: he’s a 2002 baby which means he’s the same draft cohort as Perkins, Cox, Reid.
They had the covid affected draft year in their U18s in 2020 and then again in 2021. Being a West Australian he at least had the opportunity to play in those years, but list cuts meant clubs had less spots on their senior list and (perhaps crucially for him) were allowed to move senior players to their rookie list without going through the draft.
Being an under-developed and undersized ruck/defender that needed time put into his development probably counted against him, with no room for interstate project players.
Possibly he spent 2021 developing some forward craft or something, given that’s what he’s billed as now, but I’m not sure why he didn’t get drafted that year all the same. Perhaps he didn’t nominate. Perhaps still too light. In 2022 he did an ACL and that never helps.
It would be interesting but I’d think we would be the only team in the comp with both of our key forwards traded in from other clubs and both with fourth round picks in 2MP and WeidOur history of developing talls is also a reason to go cheap and wide with selections

Forward, 196cm, 21yrs, 93kgs
From the Herald sun: Could this apprentice electrician provide an added spark to the Essendon forward line? The West Australian has had a horror run with injury in recent years, since originally being overlooked in his draft year in 2020. An elbow injury prematurely ended his 2021 season and he went on to rupture his ACL during a practice match at the start of last year, wiping out his entire 2022 campaign. But since he kicked four goals for Perth in the WAFL Reserves in Round 1 and has kicked 11 goals across the past three weeks in the seniors to really capture the attention of clubs. A five-goal haul against South Fremantle last weekend would have done his mid-season draft hopes no harm at all.

If the Hawks recruiters like him, I’m ready to get excited about Jaiden Hunter. He seems to fit every criteria for a good MSD selection: Has been overlooked due to injures and not talent (?), fits a positional need (KPF), is young and so fits the list build, and could (?) have great upside.
As a KPF, if he turns out to be an AFL quality player, then it would be a HUGE win for the balance of our list.
