I wanted us to draft him because I went to school with Kaleb Smith.

Mind you his dob is about 1972 so its good to see him drafted after being overlooked in about 30 drafts.
Took that long to get your coaching tips out of his system probs...... 🥴
🤣

Sort of reaction I had at home when I told them I was moving out! ;):p

You probably don't know it, but it was world news with Jak warnings as common as gale warnings;)

We have 40 on our list at the moment and one is a Cat B Rookie. So somewhere along the line you would think we have at least 4 spots to fill yet. Those need to come from the rookie draft, the SSP and the MSD. So you would think maybe 2 rookie draft picks, 1 or 2 SSP’s and if only one then a spot left open for the MSD.

You would have to think Tylar Young from our VFL list is a decent chance to be picked up in the rookie draft if we haven’t got another tall option in mind. Maybe also a small forward?

Your money is good my friend!

Confusing pick for the club.

No doubting smiths ability. But is a little surplus to requirements considering the Tom Brown selection from last year as well as Ralphsmith who is very similar.

But the target was clearly speed and running ability and this kid has both in spades. Uses the ball exceptionally well and has plenty of upside.
Best available when this deep , pointless with a D grade kp, in the right environment every chance these kids can make it , rest is up to them

I’ve said it a few times, but you’re selecting the player not the position.

The fact that as you mention he has speed and running ability (and apparently a good user of the ball) means he can play multiple positions. Look at the likes of Rioli, Baker, Marlion, Short etc. all have been moved around.

The best chance of kid has of making it is if they can play multiple positions and being multiple attributes to the table.

Clarke also said as much in his interview regarding the picks
Where they actually play will be worked out by the coaches in due course but they are selected on attributes and how the recruiting team think they will complement the team overall

No doubt they are both speculative picks but based on our recruiting over recent seasons it’s hard to question them
I remember when we drafted Baker and was completely dumbfounded by us getting “another small forward” when our side was stacked with similar types at the time

Spot on Muddie - pretty rare to select kids for specific roles these days - perhaps early in the draft you might, but rapt with Picks 49 and 55 selections - have given the coaches a lot to work with and could end up in a number of different roles. They have traits, but they will be their own footballers in time.

What I really like is that a lot of our later picks have been gems. It gives me great confidence when we select these guys.

It's been some of our earlier picks recently that havent come up like we have hoped.

Watching Steely play, he looks like he could actually play soon. Imagine having 2 Liam Bakers on the field.

Lol are you serious. He was average at best.
I didn’t say he had a good year. I am sure the club made their own assessment.

Was reported by the media that the club thinks he will be the best of the 2021 draftees.

You implied that the club have written him off as not up to it and thus we have recruited a replacement hbf for him.

Your comment made me have a laugh, so thank you.

This kid a potential Isaac Smith type?

I didn't imply anything. Nice melt though.

Do you have more information or assessments then what is able to be found online?
No I don't. I just find it strange that a poster would say a player has a lot of upside when all we've seen is a 20/30 second video. Can't tell anything from that, other than he appears to have speed.

Yep, hard to gauge much from the video but geez, looks like a real dasher and line breaker

You can tell even if its a ten seconds. For me Steely looks like an upgrade to Baker hard to say but kid has all his attributes and is a really good mark.
F watching all this clips wants season to start already life is so boring without footy :(

People are comparing him to baker and i reckon he may be better as his also a great mark. But who knows just talking about the highlights which may result to nothing.

All sport is becoming crap from soccer cricket tennis golf so footy is not on its own. The corrupt federations and hierarchy are making sure of it. But I still prefer to watch the Footy. F I can swear curse in my living room without the fear of been kicked out or arrested lol
