5 more years - Que Cerra Cerra 👍

Great news for the club. Saw the hole he left in the midfield when he hasn't healthy in 2024. A lot of focus is on his elite ball use but a very underrated part of his game is his defensive work. We went from being the best side at defending stoppage in 2023 to the third-worst in 2024 - with a healthy Adam Cerra in the midfield group being the major difference.

Looking forward to what he gives us over the next 6 years - very important part of our evolving core.

THE CARLTON Football Club is excited to announce gun midfielder Adam Cerra has re-signed with the Club for a further five years.
Today’s announcement is another example of a significant coup for Carlton’s future, with Cerra committing long term with a year to run on his existing deal.

Possessing elite kicking skills, he is a balanced midfielder, who is strong both offensively and defensively, bringing some experience to the midfield group now playing over 100 AFL games.

Necessary re-signing, the 5 years part is a bit of a gamble but clearly the club has a lot of faith in the treatment he received overseas to overcome his injury issues.

Ultimately Walsh and Cerra will be the leaders of our midfield in the not too distant future. Can't really risk leaving Walshy all on his own like Crippa had to struggle with for years and years.

Seems very risky given his ability to stay on the park.
If he plays like an $800k player (like he did in 2023) for the first half of the year, but we have him signed up at $5-600k, then it is awesome. Always shakes off any potential offers he would have gotten. You have to take risks with contracts to have them pay off

Definitely a worthy resigning.

He has shown he's a quality mid when fit and firing.

I personally would have only offered him a 2 year extension due to his bodies fragility, but maybe they are confident his body is right now

We also do have some aging midfielders so firming up the long term future is important
Not a chance in hell he would’ve accepted a 2 year deal. If he started the year half decent, a team would’ve offered him 4 or 5 on decent coin

Great re-signing. My guess is that his new contract is heavily performance based. His best is good enough to be leading our B&F in 2023 till injured late in the season.

There are many teams that will have nightmares in the years to come about the Walsh, Cerra, Jagga and Walker midfield.

Just you wait until we get Arli in too! Just need Oscar Judd to put away the bloody cricket bat and get his boots back on!

True, but it could also go the opposite way. He does another hamstring and then it becomes 2.5 years of reoccurring injuries in the same location that would have other teams hesitant to offer him a 2 year contract.

Either way its a null and void point, he got 5 years which has an element of risk to it, but its also why we have list managers to make those risky calls.

I have my fingers crossed that he has moved on from his injury woes. He is a quality player who i think brings something to the team
