I think it's why we honestly got both Hopper & Taranto our drafting lately has been poor & the recruiting team needs to take some responsibility.

I think we did that to over compensate for our 2022 problems in the middle. It made little sense to do it, but people wanted to point to the 2016 trades and say "BUT, BUT - LOOK, LOOK !!! "

the difference was though Prestia, Caddy & Toby Nank cost us about half the amount we paid for Taranto & Hopper in both trade & contract assets. They also filled a flaw over 3 different positions, while Taranto & Hopper only really cover the 1 role combined (alhtough Taranto looks handy up forward too).

They ( the trade periods) were never alike, as last time we paid about 50-80cents on the dollar for the 3 guys we got, while we paid $1.20 to the dollar for Taranto & quite likely we will be paying around $2.50 to $1 on Hopper once this season plays out.

Go find it yourself or just shut the F up and dont comment. You have basically admitted you have NFI what i said 3 years ago, so stop commenting like you do then. That's probably what the mods are more looking for here.

I don't blame us going for Taranto & Hopper, I think both will be good for us but you can't deny we have been spooked from the draft with our previous selections.

I think Matty Clarke has been poor since taking over from Francis Jackson.

Cant really argue re Clarke. results always speak loudly to me

I think I've run out of patience with this guy, I don't think he will be in the team much next season.
I can guarantee he plays the next 32 games

Really liked him as a tagger, has the toughness to make them really know you are there and the skill to hurt you on the rebound.

Sometimes he is such a slow thinker with ball in hand. Can get away with that on the wing, but not in the middle of the ground. Started off pretty well but the longer the game went the worse he was.

IT'S GOING TO BE CLOSE MATE.
Needs to stay injury free and not get suspended. Holding form will also be critical as he's not setting the world on fire. Will need to go into 2025 otherwise and that would appear unlikely unless we waste a Rookie spot on him .

Not even close champ, he will still be playing in 5 years when we take his oldest son as Father Son selection. Marlion has been played out of position since 2019. He is a midfielder and his best footy is ahead of him

It's year to year for players at his age.
One year contracts. Father son is such a long shot reason to retain him.
Kmac out of contract on the wing would open spots up for the kids..
He'll probably stay.

Hey Tiger, why you filling up the Pickett thread, with all this ... I'd buy that for a dollar! talk? ... when we haven't even paid for Hopper yet?

Well he played mid on the weekend and didn't exactly shine.
You are you right, or maybe half right. When he went to Rozee he limited his influence dramatically but .... Rozee had 27 and he had 17 .... what I see is that Hardwick has coached the instinct and freedom out of so many of our players, the balance of playing your role and just playing football is out of whack.

I think he has taken one for the team, using him forward for one. He is a natural wingman to me, but Ross is doing a good job so I think they experimented a bit with him due to his versatility, or seemingly. Thought he was good in the middle early, but he holds the ball so long (a bit like a wingman where you can get away with it), that he was getting caught or making poor decisions. He may have gone to Rozee, but hardly a hard tag.

Mini said in his presser that Marlion's performance on Rozee was one of the real wins for the day so it must be true lol

He may not have a say as a new coach may come in and say he's not what we want going forward. A bit like Spud on Knights.

We gift games to have players reach 300 with no benefit for the future, so I don't see any problem if that was the case (and I don't - still in our best 22)
No, we've been picking our best 22 each week (well, sometimes not necessarily best for the conditions, but that's another story) with the best intentions to win each match, with little regard to the future beyond this season.

There's a difference.

I suspect that this strategy will change over the next 4-6 weeks when we are mathematical eliminated from finals contention. We will no longer choose our best 22 for 2023, but will look ahead to 2024 and beyond.
