Is going to put it all together soon after another almost game.

When he does, watch out

JD has many almost games - Actually has too many - Some make this a career.

Did you see some of the bullshit entry he has to deal with? I remember pointing it out to my brother when we were at the game watching it, and when I watched the replay on TV (yes I'm a sadist) the commentators were even pointing out how horrible it was and how is he meant to do anything with the delivery he was getting.

I think we need to move away from the idea that he is going to be a gun FF and start embracing the fact we may have a gun CHF on our hands
He seems to do well leading up the ground and is a better kick from distance. Looking more like a Riewoldt than a Cameron or Kennedy.

Brown & Langford as our mid-talls

Bellchambers as FF until we find a new one.

Whilst I don't disagree with the assertion that he could be a gun CHF, I still think he will make it as a FF. His height and contested marking makes him a huge threat inside 50. I think once we transition from being the hunted to the hunter, he will be causing nightmares for opposition coaches.

It was another maybe game - JD took nine marks which indicates delivery was OK.

JD took quite a few of those well up the ground, I reckon you'd find.

So I don't really agree that it's indicative of good delivery into the forward line.

Too take 9 marks means the ball is delivered to the right spots and JD had sticky hands.

Delivered to his leads or to where he happened to be correctly, maybe.

Doesn't mean he was in the forward line at the time though, necessarily. He's been roaming up to the wings a lot.

I like it.
So do I.

yaco is correct in a previous observation he's made about Joe- he's a much better field kick than he is at goal and that plays to that strength.

I wonder whether ultimately he'll be more of a CHF.

Watching him live he worked his absolute ass off, another guy I was watching with who supported neither team thought he was best on ground and I couldn't argue. Without him the score line would have looked even worse.

Did you watch the game or just look at the stat sheet?

JD plays as an old CHF so spends time out of the forward 50 - From memory 6 marks were from leads and three were contested - Think one mark was in forward 50 - He did a soda in the forward 50.

Brown took 8 marks and reckon 3 or 4 were contested and two or three were in forward 50.

Out two tall forwards took 17 marks.

Still doesn't address what I originally said. What you point out is that he took most of his marks outside of the 50 which is true, most were on the wing. He did drop an easy mark yes.

But the delivery was poor. No stat, or argument you've given me disproves that.

I hope he is. He could be a real outlet target for our backline (as he sometimes is now), and if it's successful even his presence may open up the ground for others with an opposition zone focused on Joe.

An early knock (or development need) was JD's work rate/endurance. He looks like he has that now.

Modern day Nick Riewoldt?
Not saying he's on that level but think that Roo should be a good player for him to model his game on. Joe's not quite the athlete Nick is so maybe stay closer to home and he probably won't get those marks running with the flight into the F50 on back leads but it's not the worst idea.

Maybe a Riewoldt/Lucas hybrid

I got it - JD and Brown had a lucky day - Miskicks fell into their laps.
