In all seriousness, Daniher will be the most watched player by all EFC people in 2014.

We're hoping he will be our star forward for the next 10 years.

You want to say there's no pressure on him from fans but the reality is a lot rides on this bloke's development.

I'd take 5.9 any day.. that would be over 100 goals for the season.. the first time an EFC player has gone near that since Lloyd's heyday...!

I think the goal kicking will come.. as will a bit more strength etc etc..

The hardest part to teach a forward (just ask Hurley) is timing on the lead, creating space, marking the ball in the hands out in front and blocking etc for other leading players...

All of those skills Joe already has and has demonstrated at AFL level.. goal kicking is way down the list if you ask me.. given enough opportunities he will kick a bag every week.. lance franklin style..

I also have a feeling that he will havce an accuracy of around 50% this season.. which would put him 'middle of the road' in that regard.

I will disagree - Goal-kicking is vitally important - Strangest thing is that when he gets the ball arounf the ground he is a good field kick - Shades of Hurley.

You would turn down a 5 goal a game forward? Yeeshhh

See your point.. but we are so desperate for a forward.. we will have to take what we get!

Desperate no longer i would say.

JD will be better than last year which equals at least serviceable.
Chappy will be awesome
Licka will be awesome if he stays on the track.
Merrett will be better than last year which equals at least serviceable.
TBC and Ryder play their role in the forward line well.
Carlisle will be a dangerous target and at the very least will allow the other forwards more freedom.

All the problems of last season have been addressed imo. Apart from anything else, imagine how things would have been last season if you just put Chappy in the place of Kommer? I really don't think we would have had the same concern about our forward line, even though we would still be griping about Crameri's inconsistency and Hurleys injuries and Teflon hands.

No, they look to have comprehensively fixed the matter. Now it's just down to how long it takes for JD to dominate and whether Chappy can hang on long enough to be part of that success.

Or injuries will slaughter us and we will never know what might have been ;)

Hes the most natural key forward we have on our list so hes got to play. However he wont play 20+ games he will miss a few to bad form/rest/injury ect

I just dont want to jump all over him just yet like most have done. Alot of doggie fans did the same with one of their 200cm father/son first round pick key forwards and hes yet to do anything. Albeit Joe has shown much more in the short period of time and experience at AFL level compared to him at the same time.

If he puts on a few kilos and adds some strength he'll have a good year (injuries permitting). If you exclude his game against Hawthorn, when he was subbed, he posted some unusually good stats for a player of his size and development. He has a good ability to find the ball and he generates scoring shots at every level he has played at. Some strength and a lot of goal kicking practice could result in a very good year in front of goal.

Unless he starts to reach his potential I want him to play a few games in the 2s through out the season though. He can have games there where he's allowed to cruise a little bit to rest his young body. He can also have games where he's the leader of the forward line, which is important for his development.

The derp is still at least 18 months away from exploding on the AFL. Lets not hang him out to dry just yet.

This will really sort itself out... No one is going to be coming down heavy on the guy if he is much the same as last year in that he can perform in the VFL but not in the AFL as yet. Thing is, i think they will give him good chunks of games in the AFL before relegating him. I expect that he will play the first 3 or 4 games almost regardless of how he goes, unless of course he is looking really out of form. The odds would be that he will be a worrying presence for the opposition, bobbing up for a couple of goals every second game, threatening to really tear things up without actually doing it. That would be the least surprising outcome. But personally i wont be surprised if he is more consistent than that and manages 2 to 3 goals each game early in the season.

Regardless of how he is going, i want him sent to Bali for four weeks in the middle of the year ;) It's time to stop pretending that these young guys can go the whole season, and we need a strategy to try to have some fighting spirit left in September.
