Traded 6. Jordan Clark (2019-2021)

If we were really after a HBF type ...I wonder if we had offered 12 for Kade Kolo and another pick back what we would have got. Melb got him as an addendum to the May trade

The kid Reynolds you liked may be in our window tomorrow....any info you can supply????

I don't get the hate for using pick 15 on a HBF.

It's not as if we had pick 5 and overlooked some big names to pick him.

Where does he fit in? Well, Zuthrie and O'Connor were getting games down back so he could play 10 or so games next year no problem just taking their games. Cuthrie moves into the midfield replacing Scooter and Clark could play 20 games next year...

Remarkable lack of melts I think....Clark is a great pick up...

David... it was not so much I liked him ...just that he would have be a wells bolter. He should be late or a rookie really. Good overhead ..but has an appalling ball drop ..a really yuck two hand thing.

A Bill Ryan kicking action???

Hate?... I dont think anyone hates it...but Id have preferred to start the real rebuild ... and although he looks nippy and full of run etc.. I dont see him being a replacement option for the midfield and we have Ablett ..and Selwood... and then Danger not far behind .. and it seem every year you can find a HBF as a FA or a cheaper trade.
The kid look good , he will be a good add to our list but i dont see him helping us fill our main areas of need. One can only hope that with his wheels ..CS allows him to take the brakes off.

Best available.

Gutted we didn’t get Caldwell. One was bound to slip, and when you think about it, it’s quite logical that the small HBF player in the top ten mix was going to be the one who slid instead of one of the explosive mids or KP.

He isn’t quite as tall as we would hope (182cm) another 4-6cm would make him the perfect HB size.

O’Connor is my prediction to breakout next year and play every single game in the seniors.

But I’d play Clark before Zuthrie. He might still start next season in the VFL behind Stewart, Tuohy, O’Connor & Bews (possibly Cuthrie somehow as well) in the backline, but with his talent & class I’d expect him to make his debut next year definitely.

Problem is we can't replace Selwood and Dangerfield, and add Hawkins to that, at the moment.

To do that we are either going to need top 10 picks or lure a big fish via free agency.

Whilst those three are still playing we won't finish low enough to get the picks to replace them and we can't lure the big fish because we don't have the salary cap due to their wages.

It's just a holding pattern. Work on the edges for the time being. When those three go we will drop and that's when you do what the Pies did and trade in a Treloar and draft a De Goey and Stephensen in the top 10 and you are away again.

Disagree.

There was players imo available for the role. ..and as I have previously said ..I think its time to push Joel and GA into other roles and hand over the reigns to a young group.. It would be easier with early picks for sure. ... in the end only time will tell us if we have dropped the hammer right or wrong. If we pick up a better player or two with our next picks then it may on balance be good over all draft.

Holding pattern just means we are slowly slipping sliding into a state of insignificance ... while others improve and go past us.

Like this pick as it fills a deficiency in defence. Bit small at 1.82m but with that line breaking speed and precision kicking should supplant Bews in no time.

I don't mind Clark, his ball use is what will make him a great player for us. As of now I think our use of the ball is terrible so he certainly fills a defficiency. I agree with what you're saying though, he doesnt exactly plug any notable gaps. I can't see us going anywhere next year or the forseeable future until we bring in a kid who forces Selwoods/Ablett out of the midfield. Certainly no one of that calibre on the list currently, it's been a very long while.

Do you think we should have banked the 2 early 20s for Kelly and fast tracked the rebuild? I certainly think so.

So does this kid actually have talent of is he just another fogerty with lots of endeavour but not much skillwise?

Even a dash of research would have told you this kid has skills and aggression.....if you want to know more, look it up.

On his krock interview King asked if his goal is to play round 1. He said he’d love to play round 1 but he also understands he may have to wait 2 years to get his debut. He’s just happy to be given the opportunity. He sounds like a very mature young man. Potentially good leadership skills to go with his football skills. My main concern is with picking Clark is he isn’t a certain footballer. He has shades of some of our recent players we just let go who didn’t cut it. I was hoping for a more ‘pure’ footballer. But he does look like he could be a good player. And we can use some run and elite kicking down back.

I would have too.
Perhaps even packaged those two picks for a crack at the top 10 with #12 still to come; 10 & 12 would've been a reasonable 1-2.
12, 20 & 22 would have gone some way to replenishing the list, but you're obviously not getting much of a look at the elite prospects.

Can young Clark play forward?
I recall when Menzel was drafted to the club, most of his highlight packages showed him playing in defense for SA; Scott and co. did play him down back here and there in his first two seasons, but it was obvious he was going to be more effective as a forward.
