Elephant in the room.

Contracted till end of 2019 but I'd be shocked if he plays on that long. He isn't awful right now but he gets a lot of cheap ball and offers nothing defensively. His disposal has also been very underwhelming from what we saw at Hawthorn. We didn't give up much and as long as we front ended the deal we haven't lost out on a whole lot, but the contract was certainly too long.

Predicting he'll get a handshake and paper bag at the end of next year.
I agree. I think his best footy was a few years ago and also with some pretty impressive colleagues at Hawthorn. This is where we really need to see his class come through with his ball use, hardness, decision making. I also think he has lost a yard which isn't helping.

Yes, Lewis is still a great get. He had a few terrible changers on the weekend, and he does go to ground a bit (like everyone when they start slowing down), but he is still a very cool head and knows how to change momentum better than anyone. If we play finals this year he will be worth his weight in gold.

The worst thing I have noticed with Lewis (mostly because i focus on it now) is his one effort. Watch him at every contest on Saturday he puts in one effort not a single second effort if he doesn't impact or get the ball the first time he is out of the contest. I still think he has been a very handy pick up and his leadership for this young group can't be underestimated but boy I cant see him playing past next year.

Quality player clearly - but has a habit of making one or two decisions a game which baffle.

His decision to kick to Hogan probably cost us the game - both with injury and goal
This is so harsh. He shanked it. To put Hogans injury on him as well is downright disrespecful. Was honestly one of our hardest workers and best performers on Saturday.

No it's not.

If he didnt make a shit decision and try to execute a difficult kick against a gale Hoges wouldnt have fractured his collarbone.

Thats almost a certainty.

He didn't make the decision to kick it there. He shanked the kick off the side of his boot. Injuries can happen anywhere at any time. It was bad luck.

Pretty sure that's not what happened, he changed his kick at the last second.

Very good game from him, still has to many fumbles in his game for my liking but all in all very much what we need and what we want from him

Not sure why he has copped so much criticism (online) this season. 26.4 touches a game, some clutch moments late in games and an 11-6 record with him in the team. Given we brought him in on footy's equivalent of a free transfer, I'm not sure where all the vitriol has come from. He's not perfect and not an elite player anymore, but you could also argue he never was.

I've been critical of the length of the deal
we have him more than his actual form.

He'll turn 33 in 2019 so not exactly a spring chicken but not outrageously old either. Younger than his buddies Hodge and Mitchell who just pulled up stumps.
I'm not too worried about the third year tbh, if he runs out of fuel next year just let him retire and pay him out. If the extra year was the carrot that got him across then we shouldn't lose sleep over it.

Up until that game he has played with a real this time of year doesn't matter look about him.

He was sensational though. Little kicks through the corridor hitting targets in space, going a mile an hour at the contest and then that last bit of desperation in the last quarter to hold the saints. Brilliant from him

Thats the only way we would have gotten him though.
Yesterdays game and the second game v Carlton i have a feeling we would have lost without s him late in the game (s)

That contest deep in defence where he went at it like a bull at a gate and absolutely crunched (couldn't tell at the ground who it was) lifted us and was huge.
Best game he's played for us and is standing up in the back half of the year when the whips are cracking which is exactly why we got him.
Looked more composed and on top of things yesterday for the most part than any other player on the ground.
