His post game interview was something, he is pissed. Not just disappointed but genuinely pissed off, he needs a few others in the side to show that same desire.
Really awkward to watch. Felt like he was going to tear shreds of me just for watching it

And I’d probably deserve it

Weve been waiting for that for years though. Durham and Caldwell cares, Langford cares. Outside that not sure many others really do. Just have to look at the effort of our backline, all senior players, and all put up pathetic effort. Mcgrath is a disgrace, putting in a performance like he did, should hang his head in shame, merrett probably couldn’t stand to look at him in the rooms after the game.

Was about to post similar…. Caldwell and Durham are genuine hard edged, competitors….aong with the skipper that’s about it. Maybe Ridley in his own laconic way, maybe the best version of Redman.

Who else steps up to turn the tide when things aren’t going our way? Nobody.

we've had so many soft players for over a dozen years now. would love to have players like butters/maynard, sam powell pepper etc
You say you want tough guys but then say Maynard in the same sentence. Doesn't compute.

When you compare him to the backline we've had for the past 15 years...

edit; i'm just venting at how soft essendon has been since i started following afl (2003)

He's faux tough. Always willing to "fly the flag" when it's a small player but whenever it's someone bigger than him, nowhere to be found.

Copped a hard tag from Stocker in the second half. Battled on but got no support.

Poor bloke was furious last week, wouldn't blame him for checking out now.
He was furious with McGrath in the first quarter.

i don’t want to shoot bambi here or anything but given our shit form and lack of response to shit teams really turning it on of late, is he really that great a captain?

a great player yeah, but does he really inspire his team mates to not be shit?
