Only just watched Jaggas 1st interviews after his name was called out. I like to watch their reactions to see if genuinely happy or not.

He is so stoked that we called his name out, as opposed to what he was probably expecting before we landed pick 3, that he would be off to one of Richmond, NM, WC or Adelaide.

Front of these kids minds is they just want to be drafted first and foremost, but back of their minds would be that they would like to play for a team that's not anchored to the bottom of the ladder and copping floggings every week.

I reckon he's been hoping and wanting to come to us, since we acquired pick 3.

Stays in Melbourne and plays for a big club in contention.

Reckon he's stoked and so am I.

Interesting that the Tigers didnt take him given that they took a big boy midfielder in Smillie at 7 to go with another big midfielder Sam lalor. Are these guy are bit too alike?

They had a choice. Lalor or Jagga. Weren't getting both.
Lalor, for me, more a De Goey/Martin type and when hyped to be the next Dusty, the rest of the story wrote itself. Left us Jagga.
Smillie more a Crippa clone for mine.

This young man is the most exciting draft pick we have ever had IMO. And I dont say that lightly. He has everything, class, endurance, leadership.
But THE most exciting thing about him is that is the exact player we needed to round out our midfield. Its going to be an exciting year watching our midfield group mature into a premiership force.
To the Brave comes the rewards. Well done Nick and co for having the balls to trade up to #3 , and to get our man like we did is incredible

This has probably been posted, but here is an article by Jagga Smith back in March

  • Has known Harley Reid, Nick Watson and others (Caddy, Duuuuuuuursma etc) since u12 Vic squad
  • Dad was drafted to the Pies in 1988, but never played
  • Jagga played bball growing up and made the u15 Vic Metro squad (cliched, but possibly where he gets his evasiveness from)
  • Was some talk that draft age could have been lowered to 17, using him as an example last year but he didn't feel physically ready
  • Had a comprehensive training schedule this year (geez, I'd hate to see him without the twice-weekly upper body sessions!!!!)
  • Trained with Tiges last pre-season and got some tips from Prestia
  • Tried to add forward craft this year, to give him dual-positionality

Let's hope he can add about 7kgs or so over his 1st pre season which is pretty common.

Though I suspect his body might reject most of it like a donor organ lol

My body does the same with salad....

This is awesome vision, so good from the club to share it
