Of all the insults levelled against Zane in here, surely the Will Hoskin-Elliot comparison is the worst.

There were a few moving parts with Thomas being an academy pick and the trades we did re Polec so I don't even want to get into the "what ifs" on that one.

But with Horne-Francis and Phillips, let's say we did things differently. Let's say we accepted the proposed trade with Adelaide for JHF (pick 6 in 2021, along with pick 6 + 18 in 2022) and we drafted Logan McDonald instead of Phillips. Would we have seen more wins? And would we be watching JHF play for the Crows and wondering whether we'd made a terrible mistake?

With those Adelaide picks, we may have taken Rachele, Humphrey, and Weddle. That's if our draft rankings matched exactly with the clubs who ended up with those picks so it's a big if. Instead, we have Wardlaw and Goad.

Not really, without JHF we still would have done the trade that got us Wardlaw. It just would have been a simpler 3-way with WC and GWS. Our part being 1,6 for 2,3 and maybe some late pick swaps.

It was a good save from what could have been a disaster. But in the end, knocking back the Adelaide offer cost us the Rachele pick and pushed a late first back a year or two.

Logan mcdonald had multiple clubs offering multiple years at good dollars, we can bag him all we like because he's not here but the bloke we picked had zero interest last year from anyone and will be delisted at years end, facts.

I'm not so concerned about not taking McDonald over Will, I don't rate either and it was a dud draft. That draft and trade period as a whole was a shocker for us. Of the nine players we brought in, five are gone and only Corr could be considered a success, with the jury still out on Powell and Ford.
