He could definitely go again, as long as they play him based on form.

There were a couple of games last year, for exmaple, where we played Stanton in the senior team, because his name was Stanton, even though there were youger guys in better form available for selection.

My point being, I personally probably wouldn’t want him going around again if it means Redman (or any other deserving youngster) plays VFL.

We don't exactly need him to play on, especially if it means that Ridley, Redman or Francis miss out on a spot as a result.
Exactly.

Can he? Most likely
Does he deserve the opportunity? I'd say yes
Is it the best this for the footy club moving forward? At this stage, with my best guess on form next year, I would say no.

This is a tough call and I reckon if it was the Hawks hierarchy making that call, he'd be no chance.

If he does go round, I hope he isn't an auto selection.

It all depends on how much he expects to get paid. If it is reasonable, then keep him on and play him on merit as long as it is not at the expense of one of our high-quality young back-men who are coming through. His experience could be pretty handy for them.

Does he deserve his opportunity? At this point of the year you would have to say yes. He has had a reasonable year to date.

I think he has earnt a lot of good will too. I know emotion shouldn't be brought into list making decisions, but it makes it very hard if he is good enough to send him off a year early.

Spot on there I reckon. He was staunch during the bans. Probably really deserves to go out on his own terms just for that.

I think BJ will hang them up from what I know club asked him if he could go again last year.

After today's effort you'd have to think he's close to the end. Looked like he was preparing to star in some Voltaren ads given the inability to bend over or pick up a ball below the knees. Was woeful. Wouldn't be shocked to see him get a rest soon.

Was gonna come in and say he may need a rest, but woeful? Gimme a spell, his kicking was fantastic today and set up a lot of counter attacks

You don't think the multiple balls he turned over because he failed to go hard or low for wasn't woeful? That's all I commented on not his overall game.

I thought his work below his knees was subpar but overall I thought he had a good game.

Subpar? It was horrendous. Leaders play by example and that wasn't good enough effort.

He's getting on, it's something we're going to have to deal with, what I'd take from is that when he messed up he immediately went back in and laid excellent ball and all tackles.

Reckon it's probably time for a spell though, the Gold Coast roadtrip should see him have a week off

Like to see him play on. For pure football ability due to age it would be easier to accept retirement but he still adds value for his wealth of experience and leadership. Not sure we've got anybody nipping at his heels to play his role. If hurley became the player i hoped hed become maybe the void wouldnt seem so large.

May have been a little stiff coming off playing at Optus. Played a cracking game last week and was definetly not bad this week, just looked a little restricted.

There are haters who will hate-on even more as he he inevitably wanes in his twilight. It’s a shame, because I believe he is one of the greats of our game, who played one of the great grand finals, and has shown consistently high levels of talent for over 300 games.
