Retired #9: Brendon Goddard - Retires a winner - Thanks for everything BJ

I have a distinct feeling the game against St Kilda next year might have more than a few fireworks.

It will be on for young and old.

Hocking to smash someone who tries to smash Goddard...:thumbsu:

Everything being said, BtG does have a very valid point.

Watters has been very quick to distance himself from a guy who played 200 games for the club he coaches and has tried to very much minimise BJ's role in the Saints success and the latter he needed to do to some degree to show Saints fans that losing Goddard was not the end of the world so to speak.

The other thing he did soon after it was announced BJ was coming to us was to say on radio that it was pretty much a decision based on money. Even if that is 100% true that's a low blow to a guy that earlier that same year received a life membership to the club.

Even though it was a different situation I felt we dealt with Monfries going to Port in a respectful way and thanked him for his service to the club. I can't say the same for the way the Saints have handled Brendon moving on and there still to be some lingering bitterness there, moreso from Watters then anyone else at St Kilda.

Personally I don't blame Saints fans that are/were a little bitter over Goddard. I think most of the Saints fans I've seen were a bit put out, but ultimately understanding.

Whilst I don't think many would admit it, they have to know that a premiership is no longer a chance at St Kilda for the current group. I don't think many could say Goddard didn't do his absolute utmost to try make that a reality (the fact he doesn't have a Norm Smith still astounds me).

Money certainly helped get him across the line, no doubt. BUT, Watters did not create that Saints side - he had nothing to do with it. He'd be best served keeping his mouth closed; the digs at Goddard are unnecessary. As far as AFL coaches go, Watters is a nobody.

As for Monfries; clearly he is not the same class as Goddard, but yes I think the transition has been as good as can be expected. He was a great servant for us, and if he can secure his future at Port, I wish him all the best (except when he is playing us......).

Yep, and a player who busted his arse to win a GF for them and wept after the siren after they lost.

The money comment is just a convenient way to explain away the real reason they lost Goddard.

The guy just wanted a new challenge in a club he thought had more than enough talent to challenge for a top 4 spot next year.

It's pathetic that Watters gets the shits because everyone is asking him about why one of his star players left.

I bet he wakes up every morning and thinks to himself " Must not dwell on again BJ today. Must not think about BJ gone today, must move forward....####! why can't I just get it out of my head...####! I'm thinking about him again....ahhhh #### it!"

then reality hits... No more BJ for Scotty.. no more

Will also have Nat Rat and HMFH!!

I just hope it's a spiteful, torrid affair that has plenty of violence and mayham.... and Milne getting his head squeezed by a NLM headlock.:)

Personally I hope it's a clean, unemotional match.

We have a vastly superior side to St Kilda now; We should clean them up with little difficulty.

I said the same thing before our match with them this year, which I'm naming "pyjama gate".

-shudder-

And we lost to Melbourne.

Shit happened.

There are four, maybe five sides in the league 'on paper' who can match us - Saints aren't one of them.

I'd love it to be a professional, efficient win. If the lid isn't already blown off ( Jade is a bad influence :D) it will be if we go out there, BJ shakes hands with his direct opponent, we dismantle them, if they try to start something with BJ 5 guys back him up, but no follow up, just get on with the job at hand, we have bigger fish to fry.

I hate to say it, but our guys generally don't back each other up.

Hird in his last few years was getting tossed around with no protection, same with Jobe being manhandled at stoppages this year.

It better change in 2013.

I reckon BJ will have a major role in fixing that up. From afar Jobe strikes me as a "do as I do" type leader, although I've heard he's not afraid to bollock people who need bollocking. BJ is much more in your face (no pun intended...). You don't cross him, just like you didn't cross Lloydy, where you probably could cross Hirdy.

From what I've heard you wouldn't have crossed Hird either!!
