What gets me is the fact that people still think Mick going was a terrible mistake. The guy won us a Premiership, I'll grant him that, but on the other hand he cost us a Grand Final and we had several years of mediocrity with a list that wasn't as bad as seemed. It took a couple of years for Mick to even get us into a Grand Final yet. The fact is Buckley has had to deal with a list that has been one of the most injury riddled that we have ever had. Add to the fact that some players just don't seem to want to adapt to the Bucks way of thinking. That's fine. That's why he's getting rid of them. The guy bleeds black and white. He would do anything for the club and is doing the necessary things in order to ensure that we once again become a threat come September. Whether that's having to make the hard choices in getting rid of players then so be it. I'll back him.
Malthouse was all about me me me. The way he left always left a sour taste in my mouth and going to the scum even more so. The guy is a liar. That is all there is to it. Add to the fact that he played injured players in a Grand Final which, quite frankly, we could have and should have won. If he was any kind of honourable man, he would have stuck by his contract but he isn't and he left us in the lurch. That's his problem and that's ancient history now.
We now have a man who will do his all to ensure, like I said before, to get us back to being a threat and to absolutely demolish teams. I can see what he is trying to do but it's up to the players to perform. We have to hope that we have an injury free season next year and for the players to actually get that hunger back in themselves and actually want to play for the club. If they don't then I would have no problems in Buckley shipping them off elsewhere.
I am hoping that this loss to Port will act as an impetus for what is to come next season and be a reminder for us to never get to that stage again and to perform on a consistent basis week in week out. With a new Fitness coach coming in and most likely replacing of Assistant Coaches who will want to do what Buckley wants, then next year is certainly looking promising especially added to the fact we have Grundy, Witts, Dwyer among others who will only benefit from having another pre season under their belt.
I believe Buckley is taking this club in the right direction. Like anything in life, it just takes time. Keep the faith guys, we will be up there again very soon.
