That is true but we have to start somewhere and Priddis is the biggest culprit. He needs to go.
How is he the biggest culprit with regard to our low tackle count?

He had more tackles today (6) than any other Eagles player. That's 12% of our whole side's tackle count.

Shuey laid 1 tackle. Mitchell laid 1 tackle. Yeo laid 2 tackles. Gaff laid 2.

I mean, ****, Lewis ****ing Jetta laid the same number of tackles than the combined total of current captain Hurn, future captain Shuey and future midfield coach Mitchell.

Priddis 6
Jetta 3
Shuey 1
Hurn 1
Mitchell 1

How on earth does this happen?

Duggan was pretty horrible. Turnover merchant.

Lycett looks underdone.
Duggan did some good things and is finding the ball more just needs to stop the second half fade out .

Lycett was better in the ruck and around the contest than vardy . He just wasn't very good around the ground yet

Very poor second half , completely outplayed .

We aren't that good , very inconsistent side added to by some selection issues ......Port were pretty good though , hoping we can bounce back next week .

Quoting myself, but today was another tall taking us apart with Dixon's 5, and Ryder 2.

On paper we have great talls, are we overrating them?
Is our setup wrong?

Or, more likely, is there not enough pressure up the ground that teams can get on the fast break and get 1 out with their talls.

This needs to be sorted, every single week a tall kicks a bag and smashes us.

Our mids didnt get back into defence and our defenders were left one out - which makes it very hard to defend quality delivery.

In fact, our mids didnt defend at all. They dont have the pace to run up and back and get in position.

Priddis made Oli Wines look like Usain Bolt on the wing today - it was simply embarrassing. Part of me was thinking Priddis should think about retirement before the end of the year - lucky we have already extended his contract for next year :$

Port used short incisive kicks to tear our zone apart. It was similar to how the Hawks dominated us in the GF. We dont have an answer to when sides refuse to bomb the ball forward.

Ayyy?

Thought he competed well and ran hard, one of our better players.

His kicking was reasonable apart from his one flowerbag on the wing. Am i wrong?
Yes, but that's hardly a positive... Lecrap was better. Man, I am not mad.. I am just disappointed.

seem strange to me for the club whose members pay the most for memberships in the league, have the least say on who makes up our board and a general say over how the club as a whole is performing.

also who does nisbett justify his performance to and why he should stay on too. Is their an independent board or something, otherwise the clown can do whatever he wants and no one can challenge anything he does.

Sheed was shit, let's be honest. Has had a good month previously though but today was like he forgot how to play. Couldn't chase, couldn't read the ball at ground level and couldn't do anything with it even when he did.

I thought Hutchings had some really big moments, he isn't a star but he can have a crack at anything, even goes up for marks. It was harsh on him to be trying to cover a few different players, started as a defensive forward but got moved to the centre to stop Wingard when he was hot.

They're not helped by a lack of pressure up the ground from our mids a lot of the time but I also think Barrass has a lot of work to do with his 1v1 defence. His intercept game is very good but when it comes to a 1v1 he struggles to stop the power forwards and often concedes lots of marks in dangerous positions.

you gotta just let that go with Sheed was good for the month before and hes only in early 20s like Karpany, the stuff that gives you the shits is bringing back priddis, hurn etc prob masten next week who arent gonna improve the team in the future

I agree completely, I'll allow him the odd bad game as he gets going, but it's still a major reason we lost.

He doesn't have the MAckenzie closing speed, neither does McGovern.

I think Mackenzie and Schofield are our best defenders on the lead quite comfortably (of the talls). Mackenie is a good intercept mark as well but not in the same league as McGovern or Barrass in that department, but he's such a good allrounder.

Our midfield balance is all over the shop. Too many slow, limited contested ball winners who aren't able to quickly spread from the contest. A team like GWS always storms home because their team is packed with elite runners who can run over the top of the opposition whereas we have very few and are often poor in the last quarter because of it.

We also lack drive off half back. Wellingham, Hurn, Shep and Emac all offer very little rebound and never break the defensive setup of the opposition. Port in contrast were able to run the ball from half back in waves which made us look very slow and disorganised. I think our rebound from our defensive 50 is an underrated flaw in our side because if our midfield aren't getting on top we need some run and carry from half back to get the ball moving for us. Too often we rely on Jetta/Gaff etc. moving down back to get something going for us.

- We lost, thats bad I guess.
- We included all the old heads, Priddis, Lecca, Hurn, thinking we would improve on last week lol
- Got smashed in the midfield again, <insert midfield comment from 10 years ago>
- All our senior players went missing again, Shuey, Yeo etc

+ Always next week I suppose. One loss closer to getting a higher draft pick.
+ I missed the game because I knew it was going to be trash.
+ Instead of watching the game I made a Lego Star Wars ship with my son. So awesome, loved it.

another thing that shits me is why are players like Sheppard, hurn and Le Cras lining up against the Port talls when the ball goes in their. Where is the accountability for McGovern, Mckenzie and Barrass. Talls from every team we played this year have destroyed us, surely this zonal shit should be done with now

But we haven't won those games, if we were good enough we would have. The fact remains we have won 2 of 7 recently and keep persisting with the same crap each week.
If we were good enough is a bit of a cop out, considering we have been missing key players in a lot of those games. We were good enough to get in the game, sometimes it's also about luck in the end.

I think there's a huge clump of teams that can be good or rubbish on their day, where we rank among them is very tricky.

As a point of interest, for games against top 8 sides this year, with top 8 sides in red:

P W L D Win%
Geelong 5 4 0 1 80.0%
Adelaide 6 4 2 0 66.7%
Sydney 5 3 2 0 60.0%

West Coast 8 4 4 0 50.0%
GWS 6 3 2 1 50.0%
Melbourne 5 2 3 0 40.0%

Hawthorn 8 3 4 1 37.5%
Bulldogs 8 3 5 0 37.5%
Richmond 6 2 4 0 33.3%
St Kilda 6 2 4 0 33.3%

Collingwood 7 2 5 0 28.6%
Essendon 7 2 5 0 28.6%
Fremantle 7 2 5 0 28.6%
North 7 2 5 0 28.6%
Carlton 9 2 7 0 22.2%
Port 5 1 4 0 20.0%
GC 7 1 6 0 14.3%
Brisbane 8 0 8 0 0.0%

We lost this at the selection table. We looked great against the bulldogs because we had a balanced side. When they named 3 rucks + Priddis I knew we were not going to win.

Simpson has no balls. Names 3 rucks because Vardy and Petrie deserve their spots and Lycett is match fit? Bollocks! One shouldn't have played, he is paid the ridiculously large salary to make these tough calls!

Agreed. He also seems to feel like he needs to be involved in every contest, often over committing, not killing the ball and his man collects the ball unopposed on the ground leading to an easy score.

No point putting him back in the WAFL though, needs to learn on the best. Mids getting pumped not helping him either

This is why I'd like to have Yeo playing 75/25 mix of Back/Mid. Shep did have a very defensive roll today with Robbie Gray but I agree the rebound run wasn't there today.

Good point.:thumbsu:

When we come up against a dominant ruck we get flogged. Ryder dominated.

This is why I'd like to have Yeo playing 75/25 mix of Back/Mid. Shep did have a very defensive roll today with Robbie Gray but I agree the rebound run wasn't there today.
I agree. Yeo's best position without a doubt is across half back, not sure why they persist with him up the ground as he's far too inconsistent and its removing a weapon for us across half back.

Yep, that's pretty spot on. And even then we were flogged in the ruck.

If you are going to lose the ruck so convincingly you need pace around stoppages as a defensive / offensive counter to losing the taps.

We failed at selection on both counts.
