We all know that the game will be won or lost in the midfield so any plan for Roo/Kosi is useless unless we are winning it in the midfield. But after re watching last week’s game it occurred to me...a vision if you like....
Lake will play deep prob on Kosi. Morris will take Riewoldt but only when he's in and around the 50.
When he runs up the ground he's taken by Harbrow. Now the idea is that Harbrow can run with him, contest, harass, if Riewoldt does mark it on the wing so what, if he doesn't then Harbrow is Johnny on the spot to help launch attack. When Riewoldt doubles back he's picked up by Morris again. Morris will cover for Harbrow by taking one of the smalls until Harbrow gets back or we have a spare down there who performs that role leaving Morris loose.

We need Williams as well. We can't rely on Welsh to play as our third tall like we did against Brisbane. Morris/Lake are going to need a hand.

I agree Chef. Williams must play. Remembering Gardiner/King may drop back. We need all of Lake/Morris/Williams down back. Although Williams first-up form has been pretty ordinary.

Does that mean Callan out? They also have some handy small forwards. Harbrow on Milne. Does shaggy get Eddy? Who takes Schneider?

i was also pondering this question and i was thinking does everitt have the tank and speed to go with him?? maybe not while his in the 50 but certainly i would think that everitt would give him a challenge, his tall and he is great below his legs so he could be a better option to harbrow

No, Everitt is an offensive player not defensive.

I'm pretty sure if that match up occurred, Riewoldt will kick 10 goals and have 20 marks and wed get belted by something around 100pts.

Passionate supporters would probably hang themselves with their scarfs while at the game and the dogs bigfooty board would go into meltdown :D

I'm pretty sure we'll go in with an unchanged lineup as well.

I can't agree with this, but i understand the theory & have actually thought about something similar with Hargrave on Reiwoldt so you're giving up height & weight but matching speed. Reiwoldt hurts you on the lead more than anything so keep up is priority no.1. I reckon given Reiwoldt's stamina you need to rotate several guys on him during the game.

Its when Gardiner goes forward that we start to look a bit light on without Williams, but i reckon they have doubts how he's go 1st up after a spell--in a final.

I wasn't saying that he should play on him while he is around the goals but i was bringing up another option to ghost of 85 plan of playing someone other than morris on him when he pushes up the ground.

I think our best bet is that if tommy is fully fit and eade thinks that he is ready to come back then bring him in. I would still play morris on reiwoldt but id play tommy on kosi and have lake floating around and then getting them on the rebound similar to what scarlet did to us in the first QF when he didn't have a direct opponent

A couple of corked thighs perhaps...:D

Would've thought Harbrow would be on and play off the likes of Milne and Schenider.

Absolutely agree the game will be won and lost in the midfield. IF...and its a big if, we can choke supply then look for Riewoldt to float up the field for leads. At the very least we'll take his goals out of the game if that occurs with Hargrave/Morris to rotate on Riewoldt. Whoever is free will probably sit in the hole and play spare man in defence as backup.

We will definitely be exposed if Gardiner goes forward. Hopefully Hudson can go with him with Minno to take up rucking duties.

An extra tall option in Williams will be handy but i'm hesitant to put him in at the expense of someone like Callan. We dont have to change our game style to beat St Kilda, we simply have to be better, more precise and efficient with our decision making with our current gameplan of clearance, run and carry.

Perhaps a compromise in Everitt for Callan. Yes, we know he's been exposed down back this year but it looks like he's put on some size and he's shown glimpses of another decent half back wingman in the game vs the Pies.

What i'm most worried about though is penetrating the Sainters rock solid defence and creativity off half back.

Essendon just beat the Sainters due to an astonishing effort by Jobe Watson around the stoppages. We do have the cattle that can produce similar efforts. Sainters also left Monfries virtually unchecked, we too have similar small forwards that can cut teams up.

Ryder and Fletcher went out injured in that game also, but the Bombers were still able to hold on. Assuming we're 100% fit and firing, then yes we do have the means to overcome St Kilda.

Now that would be great....If Williams does play he'd have to try on Kosi not Reiwoldt i'd say as he won't have the match fitness to run with Reiwoldt.
