Preview RD 22 vs Adelaide Crows - Changes for Sunday at AO

I’ve seen pairs of shit stained underwear cleaner than McNeil and VDM, but their forward pressure is definitely noticeable.

Not saying they can’t be replaced but they add something for sure
I’d like to get Harmes fit for a pure pressure forward role in preparation for the finals. He has significant more upside as an offensive threat too.

It also gives us an extra midfield/run with option if required.

Neither Coffield or Khamis had their best games but we can expect Bevo will won’t want to change much after a good win.

If he does - we should be ruthless about what we think will make us better - then:

Khamis out for Friejah - who gives us more around the ground. Khamis was OK but needs to give more run. Coffield was rested so assume he is fit but is stronger around the contest and agree with others that a better match for Fogarty.

Sanders for CD - can’t ignore the game Sanders played. Macrae also played out of his skin and was brilliant as the sub a week or so ago with 10 possessions in half a quarter and so would also make us stronger.

Only other I would consider is Baker for Poulter - Poulter played well enough to keep his spot but Baker adds more in attack and AO is a thinner ground and will require a bit more contact. Poulter is better in open spaces.

Chefs surprise! Would love to see Buss debut. Away at Adelaide - in for Khamis maybe.
Baker, you mean the player who kicks the ball put on the full with next to no pressure. Fine as depth bit has not delivered anything close to Poulters last couple of games and I am not Poulters biggest fan

JOD anyone?

I know it won't happen in one week, but do we not see JOD and Freijah being a part of our finals run in lieu of Buku and Coffield?

Harmes for VDM is also a pipedream but I would love that change to happen prior to finals. Harmes only needs one game in the AFL to prime himself for finals. He's been on the big stage before. His presence in September will be huge for us. Please make this happen, Bevo.

Is Harmes even fit? He's been out a while, has he played any VFL yet?
I agree he's better than McNeil or VDM in the 22.

Didn't think Coffield had a great game, but I'd be prioritising him over Buku just because a) he's more versatile as a defender, b) I think he's less prone to mistakes and c) I think he's still working into form/fitness after his injury.

I think Macrae and Freijah have to come back in somehow. But it's hard to see where.

Daniel should come out at least.

JOD looked short of a run in the 2's

Harmes should be back in this week at VFL. I'd play him the next 2 weeks at VFL to get his legs back and look to bring him in to the AFL side for round 24. I'd probably have him taking McNeil's spot in the 22.

Another underrated factor is players that player on the 'edge'. We've been too nice for years but are slowly building a nice little group of guys who get in the oppositions face. Libba, West, VDM, Garcia, Harmes (?) and to a leser extent Naughton, Weightman, Darcy & JUH.

My ideal finals lineup would be:

Duryea Jones JOD
Bramble Lobb Dale
Poulter Libba Williams
VDM Naughton West
Weightman JUH Darcy
English Bont Treloar
Freijah Richards Garcia Harmes

Obviously Richards would start on the field (he started defence on Friday night for 5 minutes) but just for simplicity purposes.

I agree, with how long Harmes has been out now he needs to come back through the twos, I'm hoping he cones back in flying though and only needs one tune up game.

Absolutely insane that we have won 4 in a row - 3 of them top 4 teams and yet we still sit 7th with no clear finals chance.

Absolute must win game. Would be ****ing horrible to beat Cats, Swans, Blues and Dees only to drop to the Crows but over there they will be good.

No changes for me.

Anyone who suggests that VDM or McNeil should be dropped does not have a sophisticated understanding of the game. Footy is not really about footy. Any given player will be in control of the ball for about 0.001% of the total game time. It's what you do in that other 99.999% that matters. While VDM might fumble with the ball, you'll never see him fumble without it.

I was watching Nick Watson closely yesterday and he applies an anormous amount of pressure. He doesn't necessarily get a heap of it or kick bags but he runs like a maniac and was making life difficult for the GWS defenders.

I'd like to think VDM and McNeill are doing the same.

As has been the case the past month we'll get a good indication of where things sit early. We don't need to blow the Crows away in the first 10 minutes but we can't be insipid like we were against Port. Crows will fire a shot and fade away if we take care of business. Rankine does scare me though, absolutely no one to go with him.

I think I agree apart from Coffield for JOD. I might be living in lala land but I think what Coffield can bring as a defender would be really good if he can put it together.

I think Lobb/Jones/JOD is a bit too tall.

The only other one I'm unsure about is Macrae. I may have him over Garcia tbh. Garcia is still a little bit panicky to me, and makes some errors in giving away free kicks but I do like him overall. Just not sure if he's gone past Macrae yet.

Macrae is an interesting conundrum. Does Bevo back in his experience and proven ability to play to a high level in big games? Or does he favour Garcia who has a few very different traits in tenacity, tackling, speed & manic play? I'd say Macrae, Sanders & Garcia are competing for the one role.

Where does Daniel fit in?

Would have thought it is 2 out of the 4 not 1 out of 3

He doesn't unless you're including the sub.

Daniel might have a role to play a specialist sub but I don't think he's anywhere near the starting 22. There's a few others ahead of him for the 22 but he might find himself as the 23rd man with his experience and versatility.

I have conducted an in depth technical regression analysis of our last 4 score worms, and the results show me that we have a 100% chance of beating Adelaide. It's just science.
That’s not bad but I have done a deeper statistical study using regression analysis with positive intent ( not in my head, I do have access to two quantum computers and a Pilot H-5005 mechanical pencil.)
I have discovered conclusively that this game against the Crows gives us the best chance to win 5 games in a row that we have had in all the 2024 home and away season. Fact.
