"A year we had to have"

Yeah im sure it was not in the plan to bottom out this year. It was a terrible year and perhaps a reality check for some players and coaches. It sucked greatly the false dawn at the end of last year and its affect on our draft picks. Who knows the decade long ramifictions of that..

Look, there was some wrongs made this year. List management, coaching appointments and PR handling to name a few. Nevertheless I personally still think Worsfold will be able to lift the side back into respectability next season. However it would be his last chance in my eyes.

Regarding some of his comments tho .. its easy for us armchair critics... and especially some of the more abusive/vocal ones amongst us to unfairly slander some of our players. I think many of us understand the limitations of some of the squad... we are short in experience and talent and we have players on the list who perhaps aren't the required grade.

Despite this we should still be supporting them and their endeavor. Ive bagged Mginnity as much as the next guy but looking at that blokes face walking off the field today.. i honestly had a dead set twinge of guilt.

Nicoski/Hansen/Fletcher/RoJo whoever... the fans shouldn't turn on their own players during the low times when the support of the fans is the most valuable. The guys that arent up to the grade will gradually fade out (or in RoJo's case be recognised post retirement of their value to the team) as the team rebuilds and climbs up the ladder. Food for thought anyway.

We must be active this tradeweek to release some contracted players. I think we will be.

bollocks, 2008 was a heap of, well you know what. after 09 i was picking us to be around 10th, admitted we had lots of injuries but at times i questioned the committment of the players and coaches this season, rubbish year and a rubbish way to deflect the heat by woosha

Another year to come.

Another year of Woosh's dribble that is.

Dribble?? He is spot on.

We have the youngest list in the AFL. We played the best team in the AFL and played better then them in a half of footy. We are on the rise.

Good signs today!

Stay positive some good signs to take away for woosha,

My take on Geelong was just get through the game no reports and no injury`s .

those quotes seam awfully different to "we will not win the spoon" "i would expect to be pushing the 8 this year"
quite frankly woosha should go but i have a hope that maybe he stays and therefore we win less than 5 games and get picks 4 and 6

Yes its more of the same spin and fakery from Woosha.

"I didn't know Ben Cousins was on drugs"
"Chad Fletcher will player better without Judd and Cuz"
"Daniel Kerr will win the Brownlow"
"We'll make the 8 again in 2010"
"We won't win the spoon"
"The year we had to have"

BROADBRIDGE WILL BE GONE :D

Would you rather hear.

Fletch will be shit without those bloke.
Kerr has no chance at winning the Brownlow.
I can't see how we are going to make the 8, cause we will finish last and win the spoon.

Good points sd.

The thing that has alarmed me is that they have also blackflipped on turning over the list. All year it has been huff and puff about having a big review at the end of the year and if blokes don't perform they will get moved on, etc etc. Now they are backing out of that and making noises that they only plan on turning over 5 or so players on the senior list (4 being the minimum that the AFL allow) To back that up they have offered contracts to Rosa and Lynch, obviously meaning that they have decided against trading them.

People think it doesn't matter who coaches next year but i disagree. I think it's critical. We are in a very difficult position and we need to make a series of correct and astute decisions with our list to make up for the damage done with all the bad decisions made in recent years. We need to turn over our list and keep all the players with talent and potential and move on the crabs. It will be a difficult task.

When you are down sometimes it is easy to write off all of your players and be overly pessimistic and overly aggressive turning over your list resulting in accidently losing talented players that you didn't recognose from your club, ala the dockers in their lean years with blokes like Medhurst, McPhee, Clement, Sinclair, Holland etc.You have to avoid doing that. We can't afford to lose talent.

On the other hand you can't afford to not turn your list over because we lack quality players and the only way to get some is to get rid of the blokes who are no good and try others and hope some of them work out.

To do this we need a very astute, intelligent, cagey operator with no emotional attachment to the players to go through our list and make decisions on people and the decisions have to be purely business and have no consideration to previous achievements at the club (e.g. Embley's Norm Smith) or peoples age and experience (e.g. we can't sack Selwood or Rosa because even though they are no good they are 24 and have played 100 games and it's too painful to write off the bad investment and accept that they will never come good) or where peole were taken in the draft (e.g. Ebert was a first round pick therefore we can't move him after only a couple of years).

We need someone to turn over our list but do it with a scalpel and not a sledgehammer. Worsfold is not the person to do this job. He has too much emotional attachment to the players and is nowhere near astute enough in his judgement of talent. He has already shown he is not willing or able to make decisions on people and is going to keep backing the same horses and keep making the same mistakes he has been making for 3 years now. I think keeping Worsfold on and indulging his refusal to make decisions on people is going to send us further backwards and waste another year.

Well you can keep drinking the cool aid but the fact he has struck out on so many of them or outright lied on others doesn't bode well. In the meantime I have been forwarded Woosha's ones for next season. The fans will eat it up with a fork.

"Matt Rosa to be AA"
"Will Sullivan to win NAB rising star"
"Lynch to notch a ton"
"2011 the year we 'bottom out'"
"Finals imminent in 2013/2014"

Its minimum 3 people to turnover and its not easy to push out senior listed players currently contracted. Maybe they made some mistakes signing some of our players on for too long but they cannot just dump all our contracted players... Its called a contract for a reason and the club has an obligation to keep them on.

Nobody is suggested dumping "all of our contracted players". I suggested really going through our list with a scalpel and in my opinion we should be turning over minimum 8 and probably more like 10, some of whom probably will be contracted and some are probably not. That is not suggesting dumping all our contracted players.

And we have no obligation to them other than the financial obligation to them specified in their contract if we delist them and the obligation to trade them to a club that they are happy to go to if we are lucky enough to be able to get rid of them by trading them and get something back. That is the only obligation. We do not have an obligation to keep picking them in the team every week for the next 2 or 3 years regardless of form because they have signed a contract to be on our playing list for specified period of time.

Some poeple here just see the same thing time and time again and have no idea it's happening again.

IGNORE Woosha's comments to the media. He will always talk it up, he has to for christs sake!!!
How would it be if he came out prior to rd.1 and said "we're shite and will win the spoon"

He cannot do that. He is selling a brand as much as he is coaching a club.

Remember Hardwick's comment after rd.1?? " We will never be this bad again" Well at some stages they were just as bad.

Pretty much every coach said prior to rd. 1 this season that they were a chance of making the 8 when the truth is that Woosha, Hardwick, Scott and Bailey all knew the chances were they wouldn't, but as I said above they simply cannot say that.

Name those 10 players.

Name those 10 players.

1. Nicoski
2. Hansen
3. Lynch
4. B.Jones
5. Sullivan
6. M.Brown (has currency, EMac & Schoey offer more)
7. McKinley (career has Bern ruined at WCE)

Trades Woosha doesn't have the balls to make
8. A.Selwood
9. Ploddus

Trades Woosha is 1-2 years too late on or doesn't have the balls
10. Cox
11. Kerr
12. Glass

Pretty easy
