When i spoke to Scheer and Bowes at last weeks function they said this is there 2nd pre season with Suns as they did last years , so i think nothing has changed , its just we are aware of it now.

The academies are putting teams together to play each other through March April. Maybe play each other twice....so 6 games.
From those games, an Allies team will be picked to play the TAC cup games in JuneJuly. It'll be intteresting to see how many Suns academy players make that Allies team, and how the team goes against the TAC cup teams next year.

Talking about 18s games here Donble, not preseason training. Next year the Suns will have a stand alone team. This season it was a combined QLD team. That's the change.

So they'll have the four academy sides, Tasmania and NT all battling it out in division 2 for spots in the Allies team? It's probably better that way, just cutting out the middle man (state teams) and going directly from your academy team to the division one Allies. It will mean the players won't have to go through an extra hurdle of trying to make the state team and trying to gel with new players.

The Allies will be very hard to beat if things continue the way they are and it's going to be dominated by Queenslanders and New South Welshmen. It'll be very hard for Tasmanians and Northern Territorians to make that team.

Actually I got it wrong. Sorry about that. They do play Tassie and NT. And each team only plays each other once (5 games). That should even things up with QLD and NSW now divided up.
Then the allies team plays each of the div 1 teams.
 
Due to the Suns not existing 10 years ago, it's often reported when an academy prospect is the son of a local GC footballer. Hence the media reporting on Southport Sharks Hall of Famers Brett Thompson (Rory's father) and Troy Crossley (Brayden's father) from time to time as if they are a real AFL father-son duo. Here's a little bit of news on the two - Brett Thompson (pictured below) will coach the Gympie Cats this year while Troy Crossley will coach the Burleigh Bombers.

We also know another academy prospect in Bailey Scott has a famous father. I believe Robert Scott has previously been involved in the U16 QLD state team so it's good to see all these guys getting involved locally. Nothing wrong with developing a bit of a 'family club' feel.

The Suns should be looking at employing Robert Scott to work with the academy kids (part-time even if he already has a good job) to strengthen the QLD bonds.

God knows he is better credentialed than Tom Scully's dad was to be a recruiter.

Hopefully this is one of those situations where being in the academy and around the club for the past 6+ years, living here meaning he wouldn't have to relocate, and his dad and family working/living up here, means he will choose to stay with us rather than up and leave for the team his old man won a premiership at or played at for a while. Not that there's anything wrong with Geelong. ;) But he's ours (for now). Hopefully he shows some good signs for the academy in the champs and really gets the 3 clubs licking their lips.
 
Oh yeah sorry, I agree. I didn't take it as you coming and saying 'come to Geelong' or anything. I was just saying that with all the work we've put into developing him it would be suck for us to see him walk to North/Geelong. But that goes for any academy player from any club (besides maybe GWS, Im sure they wouldn't complain about missing out on 1 kid). Same with Jnr Ashcroft for example. But there's still alot of water to go under the bridge and hopefully both kids in the article go onto have good years this year and next.

I haven't heard anything about specific plans yet mate - will probably depend on how many senior-listed players we've got each week as to whether he gets a look-in at NEAFL level. A few in front of him I'd say.

At the U16 championships last year he was 182/63.

Thanks mate. 182 is a nice size for a 16yr old you'd expect him to be pushing 190cm come draft day!!
Just got to treat him right and get him amoungst the boys so he picks the mighty Gold Coast Suns

Pretty sure Robert Scott was dumped from North's grand final team after playing in the prelim , then was delisted 2 weeks later . Pretty sure his dad won't be pushing North's bid.

His old man wasn't very tall (173cm) so I wouldn't hold my breath. Even if he ends up in the mid-180s that's definitely tall enough to match it with the elite mids. Having said that, Gary Tredrea was only 175cm and his son Warren ended up reaching 194cm so who knows!

Meh Shane Mumford was pick 57 in a rookie draft. Everyone knows GWS have been gifted a zone that doesn't really belong to them just to make them stronger.
 
whats the opinions on Harry Simmington? what is his best position? seen him play as a forward for QLD and down back in the NEAFL. where do we think he will fit into the draft landscape?

Another player of interest is Lachlan Smith from North Queensland, He captained QLD u17 team in 2016, whats the thoughts around him and has he moved down this year?
