Kalani White is a bust to date.

Patterson and Murray could still rocket up the draft boards
Hopefully not too far, would be great if we could just pick them up in the 2nd or 3rd round without matching

Patterson looks like a likely type - good athleticism, took the game on, looked good in the contested ball stuff. Probably won't go too high in the draft as a back pocket who probably isn't going to rack up big numbers and seduce recruiters with elite disposal, but a player you would love on your list that could develop into a good role player.

Yeah Patterson looks good. Has a fair bit of burst about him.

We don’t use him down back. That was just one game with selected teams and the coaches needing to find a role for him.

Which made his performance even more incredible. I’d still expect a midfield/half forward split. Given his awesome ball use and showed ability to hit the scoreboard and setup scores

He looked right at home in defence. Could be a real weapon as a running half back.

The Gold Coast Suns Academy production line is poised to churn out two more stars next year, who both shone brightly in the annual under-17 Futures game.
Damien Hardwick’s Suns will have priority access to Beau Addinsall and Zeke Uwland in the 2025 national draft as the club continues to build a list chock-full of talent.

Midfielder Addinsall was everywhere for Team Sloane in the AFL Grand Final curtain-raiser at the MCG on Saturday, gathering a game-high 34 disposals to win his side’s best-on-ground medal.

The 17-year-old’s ability to spread from stoppage and find space was unrivalled, while he was also tough around the contest.

Addinsall got involved in numerous possession chains for Team Sloane, logging 19 handball receives in what was a free-flowing match.

Teammate Uwland – the younger brother of Gold Coast defender Bohdi – also had some nice moments, including a 60m goal on his booming left-foot during the opening quarter.

Uwland finished with 22 disposals, seven marks and two goals playing a half-forward role.

BEAU ADDINSALL

34 disposals, 5 marks, 5 inside-50s, 2 clearances

Wherever the footy was, the Gold Coast Suns Academy member wasn’t far away. The midfielder gathered a game-high 34 disposals to win his side’s best-on-ground medal, with his ability to spread from stoppage and find space unrivalled. He was also tough around the contest and got involved in plenty of possession chains through his 19 handball receives in a free-flowing contest.

ZEKE UWLAND

22 disposals, 7 marks, 7 inside-50s, 2 goals

Another top Gold Coast Suns Academy prospect, Uwland is the younger brother of current Suns player Bodhi. The midfielder spent the game playing a half-forward role and had some big moments, including a huge left-foot goal from 60m in the opening quarter. While he also made a few mistakes, he works hard and laid four tackles, while that left foot is a genuine weapon.
KALANI WHITE

7 disposals, 5 marks, 2 rebound 50s

A father-son prospect for Melbourne as the son of former Demons ruckman Jeff, White featured as a key defender for his side. It wasn’t a huge day for him but he showed some good signs, including a good contested mark early. Measuring 198cm, White is also part of the Gold Coast Suns Academy.

Does anyone have height stats for our boys. Patterson looked a good powerful size if I was looking at the right player.

Also, is a replay up anywhere?

From pre season profiles used for CTL

Dylan Patterson 183cm (has no changes from July 2023 recorded)
Jai Murray 183cm (has no change from July 2023 recorded)
Beau Addinsall 180cm (was 175 pre 16s champs in 2023 according to rookie central)
Zeke Uwland 178cm (seems about right)
Kalani White 198cm, he’s 200+ now

I’m sure Murray is taller than Patterson though

Supposedly the replay is available and the stats. But the AFL site doesn’t have a tab for special games. So it’s there but we just can’t see it atm

#11 Dylan Patterson (Suns Academy/Queensland)
Defender/Midfielder | 183cm | 09/09/2007

Stats:
20 disposals, 4 marks, 3 clearances

Having spent much of the year as a midfielder-forward, Patterson brought his flair and dashing style to Team Heppell’s defence. His pace off the mark is an elite trait and got him out of trouble plenty a time, but was also useful when snatching quick metres on the rebound. The Suns Academy member even used his speed defensively with a goal-saving diving smother in the first quarter. Patterson then moved into midfield where he was again difficult to lay a hand on, taking off with the ball in powerful bursts and looking dangerous when carrying it on the attack. 16 of his 20 disposals were handballs.

#1 Zeke Uwland (Suns Academy/Queensland)
Utility | 178cm | 24/04/2007

Stats:
22 disposals, 7 marks, 7 inside 50s, 2 goals

Uwland is a perfect utility in the way that his strengths are able to adapt to any role. Rotating between half-back, midfield and the wing, he still managed to hit the scoreboard with two goals – including a 70m bomb – with his running capacity a highlight in the game. He might only be small, but his skills and decision making standout, and Uwland was amongst the best for Team Sloane, pairing up well with fellow Suns Academy member, Addinsall.

#2 Jai Murray (Suns Academy/Queensland)
Defender | 183cm | 09/03/2007

Stats:
13 disposals, 3 marks, 2 rebound 50s

Playing his role in the back 50, Murray was able to get his hands on the ball and provide some rebound, while pushing up to add an extra number further afield on the wing. He took a strong mark in the defensive goalsquare during the third term and though often under pressure was able to remain involved for his side. His own pressure could lift further but he gets into ball-winning positions to transition the play from defence to offence.

#3 Beau Addinsall (Suns Academy/Queensland)
Midfielder/Forward | 180cm | 09/03/2007

Stats:
34 disposals, 5 marks, 5 inside 50s

Voted best afield for his team in the loss, Addinsall was outstanding across the four quarters. Collecting a match-high 34 touches, he started on-ball and then went forward where he was able to distribute well into attack. Most importantly, he covered the ground well to help out in defence, often winning it behind centre and hitting up targets on those 45-degree angles to open up the play. Addinsall was very impressive at finding space and when confronted showed nice strength to still dispose of the ball. One who has plenty of upside given his inside-outside balance.

#29 Kalani White (Suns Academy/Queensland)
Defender | 198cm | 05/05/2007

Stats:
7 disposals, 5 marks, 2 rebound 50s

Attached to two clubs through the Suns Academy and also Melbourne as a father-son prospect (Jeff, 236 games), White played the deepest defensive role and was often involved one way or another. A couple of times he got caught behind but when in front he was able to quell any attack with a great leap and timed his spoiling well. Playing it safe with his disposals which were often neat, short passes while on the last line, he clunked five marks – one contested – and was among the better players on his side despite having the least disposals, showing his impact in pressure situations.

From RC, they’ve got stats and breakdown of every player

Uwland is shaping up to be another star product of the Suns Academy and a likely top 10 draft pick in 2025. He's excellent overhead for his size, is completely fearless at the contest and possesses an absolute cannon of a left boot. In the Futures game he put in a solid performance, although occasionally tried to bite off a little too much.

Finally we can bring back the nickname The Cannon + for a player who can do more than just kick!

A much requested game from Beau Addinsall who ended as the game high possession winner on the day. Addinsall showed elite footy IQ and industrious work rate, doing most of his damage as the link man on the spread, offering overlapping run or presenting on the 45 for a release kick. He disposal was a little loose early, perhaps showing some nerves on the big stage, but he tidied that up as the game progressed and his poise and decision making were a feature.

Patterson started on the bench but it didn't take long at all for him to prove his worth once he entered the fray. Playing as a small defender through the first half, his full body commitment to defensive pressure acts was a standout feature including a fantastic goal saving smother. Moved into the midfield in the second half he got involved in extracting the footy from stoppage, and worked hard around the ground to link the play and help his team take territory, but still kept up his application to defensive work in a contest where defense clearly wasn't a priority for either team.

10. Leo Lombard
Speed, Clean Hands, Ball Winning, Pressure

Another year, another Academy Ace on the way for Damien Hardwick and the Gold Coast Suns

It takes a special talent to play in a VFL premiership at the age of 16, but Lombard did just that as part of Gold Coast’s flag-winning side in 2023. The Suns Academy member has only gone from strength-to-strength since then, winning plenty of the footy at every level this year. Lombard is a tough, quick and agile midfielder or half-forward who has worked closely with 2023 Suns Academy graduate Jake Rogers and has long looked to model his game on Touk Miller. When he doesn’t have the footy, he’s a fierce competitor who loves to lay a tackle or apply some pressure on the opposition ball carrier. Lombard finished the under-18 national championships as a joint winner of the Larke Medal after averaging 120 ranking points across four games for the Allies, including 32 disposals and two goals in a dominant display against Western Australia. Those performances also saw the AFL Academy member win the Allies’ MVP award and earn selection in the midfield of the All-Australian team. Lombard trained with the Suns over pre-season and spent most of the second half of the year at VFL level, showing he is ready to step up to the next level.

2024 Coates Talent League109 ranking points, 24.7 disposals, 2.7 marks, 5.7 clearances, 6.3 inside-50s, 6.7 score involvements, 3.3 tackles, 0.3 goals (3 games)
2024 National Champs120 ranking points, 26.3 disposals, 2.8 marks, 4.8 clearances, 6 inside-50s, 5 score involvements, 4.5 tackles, 1.0 goals (4 games)
2024 VFL66 ranking points, 17.5 disposals, 3.1 marks, 2.6 clearances, 4 inside-50s, 5.6 score involvements, 1.9 tackles, 0.6 goals (8 games)
