Clubs: Brisbane Lions Academy/Queensland

There’s something in the water in Queensland at the moment with the Lions set to cash in on yet another Academy star. Brisbane have landed a trio of father-sons in recent years in Will and Levi Ashcroft and Jaspa Fletcher, but they’ve also had significant success on the Academy front with Sam Marshall and Ty Gallop. Annable is a well-rounded midfielder who loves to extract the ball from contest and feed it out to his teammates on the outside. A hard worker who is an absolute ball magnet and nice user, Annable averaged 28 disposals and six tackles in the Coates Talent League this year.

Looks like they just listed the 2025 AFL academy squad.

Is Annabele a potential Neale replacement?

I’d be more comfortable comparing him to Jarryd Lyons, but he is a much (much, much) better runner. Needs to work on his kicking, even when he’s not under pressure.

Funny thing watching his highlights I thought I was watching Lyons , just an eerie resemblance physically and facially.

Of course he runs a lot quicker and is much better overhead.

What is his defence like then Briz? Does he get a decent tackle count, is he a bit of a Dunkley? I see us with a brilliant midfield contingent going forward but is there a good defensive one in the crop?

What is his defence like then Briz? Does he get a decent tackle count, is he a bit of a Dunkley? I see us with a brilliant midfield contingent going forward but is there a good defensive one in the crop?

Can’t say I’ve taken much notice of his defensive abilities. Most of the time I believe he’s played a see ball, get ball role, where as Dunkley plays an actual defensive role.

Hes an exceptional tackler.

in the QAFL over 10 games he averaged 20+ disposals and 4 tackles a game as 17 year old.

He was the leading ball winner in the Grand Final and also had 5 tackles that day.
