Well it's official.

Adam Cooney has publicly announced today that after playing his 250th game on Sunday against his old club, he will retire immediately after that match.

He does have a fair old CV once he retires.

250 games.
2008 Brownlow medal
2008 Dream-Team representative
2008 All-Australian
2005 AFLCA Best Young Player Of The Year

Was the first number 1 draft pick to win the Brownlow.

Congratulations on what has been a pretty decent career.

Gun player at his peak and disappointing that injury cruelled his performances later in his career. Respect.

Have not seen him play live for Essendon but can anyone tell me if the Essendon fans shout in unison "Cooooooon" whenever he gets the ball?. If not it would be nice to see the dogs fans getting back on board to do this even though he is playing for Essendon.

Wish I could be there to see him hang up the boots this weekend.

Was an unreal player before the knee hit the skids, we never really saw him reach potential, people forget just how good he was. Could have been a bulldog great. Probably still is.

All the best for the future coondog :thumbsu:

Did his knee at an age where he would have just been getting into his prime, it's such a shame that he never got to play at his 2008 level ever again as he should have been a champion.

It's amazing that when a player retires everyone has a decent thing to say about them. The amount of criticism one receives seems to be forgotten when they announce their retirement.

Have you seen the Troy Chaplin thread?
