It will have some effect, but during winter most of the wind is S/SW/W. Metricon and Skoda are currently using a horseshoe type ground ( on a smaller scale), just adds to the home ground advantage , nothing that will wreck a game.

Looking forward to it. Only shame is that it wont be 100% ready for the next ASHES.

Thanks, never thought it would wreck a game or be a problem, makes it interesting if anything.

The reason I questined the video screens is, I feel that 2 video screens in my line of sight i.e from the hill would overdo it (I can't think of a better way to explain it but just can't really like it). I still think 2 are sufficient if their correctly placed. Probably the best place would be at the southern end would be where one is now but maybe a bit higher. Looking at this video are they also putting a second one at the hill? If so that seems way over the top. I am mostly happy with the design of the stands after looking at it again apart from the southern roof, that looks oversized and ugly and pretty bad in my opinion

As for the new stands I hadn't noticed before but the way the western stand is slightly different in 3 sections makes it more unique, almost like how the MCC stand is integrated into the new northern stand at the MCG but is still made to stand out in the middle. I Hope what I've said doesn't sound
too weird lol just my thoughts again. I actually like the overall design the more I look at it, but the sothern roof still doesn't appeal. It just looks oversized. The other new stands though have got the thumbs up from me.

You're right, that video looks to have a screen around the northwest light tower vicinity...pretty sure that won't actually be there; from what I know it's been confirmed we'll have three...one around where the current one is, and one either side of the southern stand.

Thinking further on the open northern end, any idea what they'll do for TV cameras at that end behind the bowler's arm/the goals? Are they going to keep the scaffolding tower on runners that slides east-west to go in line with the match pitch, or will something more permanent and classy be erected?

I have a feeling the SANFL will want to keep it at AAMI for a while, as they will have the stadium there still.
Then again, they'll want to use the better facilities.
If they jump to AO in the first couple of years they'll feel like they're admitting that AAMI wasn't up to standard and they were only using it because they "had to".
Long story short...definately eventually, because eventually AAMI won't have the capacity. Short term, who knows yet.

The way I see it is '15 @ Adelaide Oval, '16-onwards @ Footy Park. Well, that's normal finals, the GF will go to Adelaide Oval and stay there.

There is no logical reason to maintain a 50,000 seat stadium, it would just be a waste of money, so it will be redeveloped straight away in my opinion. Like I mean probably March '15 start time. The Northern Grandstand will go, the Southern Skyboxes will go, that'll bring the capacity to about 38,000-40,000 I'd guess. That's a tight squeeze for the SANFL GF, especially if it's a fresh new matchup (so not including Centrals), so I believe the GF will go straight back to Adelaide Oval (hopefully North vs Glenelg, bring it back with the same matchup it left with).

The question I wonder is into what mold will they redevelop the stadium into. Will they just ditch the Northern Grandstand and Southern Skyboxes? Will they then get rid of the undercovered terraces on the outer? Will they keep the open seat infront of the terraes or go with standing room, either grassed, concreted or both?

I can see them turning into almost a copy of Elizabeth Oval, have the Grandstand. Have the concreted outer on different levels encircling the outer, then maybe have a grassed area at the top. Maybe hosting about 25,000-30,000. Question is how long will the redevelopment take, if it takes 5 months I can see the 2015 SANFL finals being here, but any longer and I doubt it. I half expect them to hold off games that year anyway and bring the return in rd 1 of the 2016 season..

The plan I see for Footy Park is probably how the SANFL used it from the early 60s to 1990. Play the match of the week there and then finals (minus the GF obviously in this case). The SANFL I know is keeping Footy Park, so they may as well make money out of it other than maybe making the Crows rent it for training (I expect Max Basheer to go when they redevelop that area into a residential area). Hence my belief they'll take home and away games back there.

Anyway, that long story is just my speculation. But in short, GF = Adelaide Oval, other finals = Footy Park.

note - I know it's AAMI Stadium now, and I normally call it that, but by the time all this comes around I can't see AAMI throwing money at the stadium anymore for naming right so I expect the oval will revert back to it's old name.

Doubtful the SANFL will use Footy Park much post-AFL being there I reckon.
SANFL clubs won't want to move their home games (for most of them it's not in their zone, and for the Eagles they have Woodville and Thebarton to play at).
Really, why continue to play finals there when the stadium the public will see as the "home of footy" (even though it's technically the "home of AFL") in Adelaide as Adelaide Oval - the stadium with the first-class facilities, central location and the one that just had bazillions of $$$ spent on it.
AAMI will become like Waverly...an oval with training facilities. These will be the Crows' Westpac Centre on the East, and some stuff on the West (SANFL Offices, the function centre). This will take some time to slowly downgrade to but I think the SANFL would be fighting a losing battle to get people to go to AAMI once AO is ready - the fight's big enough now and that's before we have the new stadium. So AAMI will be big enough to hold the 10-15,000 you'd likely get at preseason matches, and apart from that it'll be a training facility (Crows, SANFL teams like the U18s, SANFL Umpires). And really, why not play preseason games at the likes of Norwood? There are lights and facilities to host a similar crowd.

Yeah they might need to use footy park for Nab cub because of the cricket season not being finished. but what would they do if the AO isnt available in round one due to cricket (like MCG next year)?
I can't remember the exact dates but it's pretty much 7months AFL and 5months Cricket, but I think the last weekend of March is AFL and the last weekend of October is Cricket so it shouldn't be an issue. But if it is, Crows and Power will play away in Round 1 most likely, just like Brisbane would have to and Sydney wouldn't be able to use the SCG.

Evidently the Aami deal terminates when Crows and Power games are moved. SANFL are on record as saying they'll be maintaining the stadium at 40,000.

It will likely have to host Power and Crows NAB Cup matches and any other fixtures outside of the normal footy season
Good :thumbsu: Would like to see the stadium kept in the game in one form or another. NAB Cup would be perfect.

Started a fair discussion here. I would like to see footy stay at Footy Park in some way or another, NAB Cup is a great idea since AO will (or should) still be used for cricket up until at least March. Prehaps continue to play some/all the SANFL finals at footy park in the near future except for the grand final if capacity eventually becomes an issue.

Think you meant early 70s there. First match was 1974.
If the plan is to keep the ground largely intact, then no doubt it'll get utilised for matches whether they are pre-season AFL or perhaps U/18 games during the year. SANFL scheduling will depend on AO availability.
Thought there was some suggestion of a land sell off around Footy Park, but who knows?

Just a thought! I have no idea if it is possible area wise but I like the idea of moving the Bradman museum into the Adelaide Oval ... as a part of a larger South Australian sports museum. Could include memorabilia of footy, cricket, netball, soccer, basketball, olympians .. etc from South Australia. This way they could incorporate stadium tours and a sports museum together to keep people around the area when events aren't on. I've been to Old Trafford and really enjoyed the tour there. [p.s. sorry if this has already been discussed here]

Isn't the Bradman Museum in Bowral? I remember driving past it once on the way back from the coast. I was very hungover though, so I'll stand corrected.

One in Adelaide was part of the SA state library collections IIRC, but the move was announced in 2007, id have thought it was already done

Yikes, I didn't realise it had been moved from the Art Gallery into Adeladie Oval. Maybe they could just make it larger so the Bradman Collection is the centre piece of the Museum, I'm sure Mark Woodforde would donate or loan one of his Wimbledon trophies, Lleyton Hewitt the U.S. Open trophy, Andrew Mcleod a Norm Smith, Boof Lehmann a baggy green, Stephen Kernahan a state guernsey, Stuart O'Grady a Green Jersey or Olympic gold medal, Makybe Diva an egg? and Bruce McAvaney could do some special commentary.
