Adelaide Oval - Discussion

I thought it was tastefully done, well definitely compared to what the Asian Cup venues copped, such as simply putting up white sheets in front of AAMI signage inside AAMI Park, and the covering of 'ANZ' signage at ANZ Stadium so that the signage simply reads 'Stadium' (someone described as something straight out of the Soviet Union lol).
It just looks like they hung a giant piece of hessian off the roof, is all.
And I thought the same about ANZ - initially I thought they'd re-signed it "Stadium Australia" but they hadn't.

Everything sells out at Adelaide Oval...still they decided to make the capacity same as even a little less than Ammi stadium.
You make it sound like they made the decision to make AO 53K AFTER it started selling out :p
"Oh, everything at Adelaide Oval sells out let's make it the same capacity as AAMI"
When really it was "nothing at AAMI gets to capacity, and we'd like to sell out most things at the new Adelaide Oval, so let's make it similar and hope that having a great facility in the city will enable it to sell out consistently"

Must've missed that one. I noticed the illuminated Telstra logos in the South Plaza have been covered up by the Adelaide Oval logo, and the signage next to Memorial Drive had an Adelaide Oval cover on it.

Here is a great picture of last night I found on the internet.

Have they used a different type of grass to cover up the patches left by the Stones concert? I can't understand why it's still so visible 3 months later. Apart from that, it looks sensational.

Yeah and the big bronze ones on each "end" of the Riverbank Stand, the one closest to Memorial Drive just gets a massive piece of beige shadecloth hung over it...very much "we've got a major sponsor but the host of this event doesn't like them".
Betcha the AFL would do the same if they signed with Optus next year :p

They'd probably fine both the Crows and Port for 'Bringing the game into disrepute' - like what happened to Brisbane when the Gabba gave their pourage rights to Cadbury Schweppes (Pepsi). Was something like $250K too!

I think its from putting in the drop in pitch but I have no idea why it is still visible.

I think pourage rights is a bit bigger! :)

Tickets to Australia v India on Feb 8 and India v Afghanistan on Feb 10 are FREE, gotta buy online and only GA (no reserved), expect it to be more like going to a big ING Cup game facilities-wise, but a good chance for a squiz :)

Tickets are now available - they're free (and no booking fee), but the only option is EzyTicket.

Also, while Ticketek are the ticket agent, I don't think you can use your My Ticketek account for the tickets, but have to set up a special 'ICC World Cup' account (had to do the same for the Asian Cup too), but they are presenting the tickets in the customised World Cup style.

Well they are part of the World Cup event :)

The ground was full to bursting last night, the members was way overfull (all seats gone 1 hour before game), people were standing 10 deep on level 1.

The member stand oversell was shocking on Sat night and the access in and around it is poor. I know at the time it was built solely for cricket, but eventually it has to be built to be rebuilt to match / be better than the Eastern Stand. And then we're looking at around 60,000, which is what the capacity should have been for it in the 1st place.

Yeah I get ur point....but surely u have the foresight to increase capacity knowing interest is going to be significantly higher playing in the city opposed to 40 mins out. There were people sitting in the aisles in the members...ridiculo.

All tickets available to Australia v India this Sunday have been "sold"...so assuming a decent SACA Member turnout (Western stand and level 3 Riverbank) they'll get 40k+.
For a trial game. Amazing.

I wonder whether AO will be selling Coke or Pepsi during the world cup games. Conflicting sponsors...
Pepsi.
All stadia must be 100% clean for events such as World Cups.
It would have been in the deal signed with Coke, that in the event of hosting an event such as this (they'd have some fancy term for it) then they'd be required to clear out for that period.
Same goes with advertising and naming rights - Like CA doesn't use "Telstra Plaza" (Southern Plaza) at events it runs, eg Test, BBL Finals (Westpac Stadium in Wellington is Wellington Regional Stadium and Blundstone Arena in Hobart is Bellerive Oval, because Westpac and Blundstone aren't sponsors of the CWC...at the 2006 Commonwealth Games Vodafone Arena, now Hisense, became the Multi-Purpose Venue, but Telstra Dome retained its name).
Any advertising/pourage/sponsorship deals would all have conditions allowing this - or, in the case of long-term deals signed before an event was announced, amendements would be put in place.

Wonder what other grounds will use it? Certainly modernises everything. Also is level 2 advertising being used?

The SCG will also be using their level 1 digital signage (normally only used for Sydney Swans home games) as well (I think they've done the same as us and made it the fence as well).

Another bonanza crowd both for tourism & Adelaide Oval:

Raj Chauhan, who has been selling travel packages in Sydney on behalf of ICC official travel agent, Corporate World Connect, said, "There is an expectation that over 16,000 people are travelling from Sydney alone to see the game."

"There would be thousands travelling from Melbourne and hundreds from Brisbane and other parts too. In Sydney, we have completely sold out the One-night accommodation travel package," he said.

A Melbourne resident Rahul Gupta, who would be travelling to Adelaide by road, said: "I m excited. I have taken off from work and we are a group of eight including my nephew who is coming from New Zealand to see the game. My boss knows that its our World Cup."

I stand corrected, the ICC have brought their own digital signage, but it goes around the entire ground.

The level 3 signage doesn't look like it will be used at all.

Even the digital sight screens are different to the usual Adelaide Oval ones!

Also, no static advertising anywhere inside the ground (it's all coloured World Cup and Adelaide signs), and except for the Bradman Pavilion, all stand names have been covered up and included on the colour static signage.
