Clearly you think we're in the business of winning a few games by small margins against bottom 8 teams early in the season. Most of us here care about winning when it matters but I'm glad this season has been enjoyable for you.

The reality is that we have the worst % of any team in the 8 by a long way, and the teams we have beaten are all outside the 8. It is very unlikely we are a good team.

Every year, we have a solid run of wins (despite being s**t) and every single year, people like yourself are easily convinced and start singing Dodo’s praises prematurely.
Ya feelin yet?

lol, are you really here to say “I told you so” after we just beat 18th who are yet to win a single game?

Do you understand the concept of winning when it matters? These wins are good but ultimately they mean nothing unless we can back it up and win when it matters late in the season. We have not been able to come close to doing that for 20 years now so I’m going to wait until then before I celebrate.

I tend to agree, the “inspired” wins concrrently dont mean much in the full context of the year. Dogs (outside the 8), Saints (big slip from last year), GWS (lost 3 of last 4) all declining. The big take always could be the draw versus Collingwood and the win in Perth against a charging Eagles. Let’s not mention the duck dive Draper had at Adelaide Oval either.

We could be 5 - 5 and no one would bat an eye lid but the fact we are 6/1/2 means people want to shoot us down. Let’s win some big matches and then beat our chest. 4 weeks post bye tells us a whole lot and the competition about this new dawn Essendon

The former Peel Thunder football manager is part of a transition process the Bombers announced last year with long-time recruiting boss Adrian Dodoro, with O'Brien also joining the club this season to bolster their scouting division after leaving the Eagles at the end of 2023.

"It's great to have a mentor there like 'AD' who is so experienced in this space. To have AD still working heavily in the contracting space, we're obviously working closely together," Rosa said.

"I've just started to move more into that space over recent weeks but to have the transition has really allowed me to get out and watch lots of live footy and get my head around the talent pool and obviously we've got the mid-season draft coming up. We're working really well as a team and we've been able to add to that team and really beef up our resources in the recruiting space."

This is the last part from the article below. Gives some sort of clarity as to what has been happening.

Using the percentage factor is also misleading as well in round 10. Not enough exposed form across the board. Different story in round 18 for sure . Agree with winning when it matters. We have to keep brining what we have since the Port game as we are far from the finished product but I have to say I am enjoying what we are doing so far this year more than the first half of last year or Trucks first year. There is more intent and a lot more "team" in it. How far it goes ? Jury still out . Like you say we have history but I am 100% celebrating while it is still going.

Insipid wins ? Given how we have played for 20 years I am taking as many wins as we can. Would not call this year insipid . At least we are showing some real team defense and a bit of hard edge.

I think people need to forget about who we have or haven’t beaten, outside Sydney who are beating everyone, no other top 8 team has won more than 2 matches against other top 8 teams, outside NM and Rich there are no gimme’s as evidenced by WCE beating Melbourne and Hawthorn should have beaten Port. We just need to keep playing the way we have been and the wins will keep coming and we should end up in decent spot come late August.

Each to their own I guess. I am enjoying the wins but ultimately know they are meaningless if we fall in a heap in the second half of the season. So will wait.

I do agree we have improved though.

SLIDING DOORS

IF Dodoro wasn't such a deal master winning legend who hurt Mccartney's feelings on Stringer, Shiel and Caldwell trades
THEN we would have Bobby Hill on our list

We offered 25 I think for Hill and GWS ended up accepting 38 the next year from Collingwood. What a tragedy.

he was in contract the year we asked the question and out of contract the year after.
It was a similar issue with Dunkley, we asked the question when he was still in contract so dogs could play hardball.
I was thinking about why we kept going after guys with a year or two left on contract at that point, almost like we did the the hard yards for other teams.
Feel like because of what a shambles we were on and off the field at that point we had to look at guys in contract as we didnt want to get into bidding wars with other teams who had their house in order. But because we had traded our way out of a few drafts in the lead up we also were gun shy of overpaying for these players too.

Hill wanted out, talked to a few sides, GWS said no, is my recollection of events.

Sometimes not everything is Essendon's fault.

Fair enough, I dont think we should have paid for Hill what GWS were asking, but Dunkley I possibly would have considering we chased him. Up until this season I would have still said we would have been better off with dunkley and only one first round pick in that draft, but with the upside of Caldwell/Durham as the defensively minded mids. plus cox finally coming on its a bit of a tough one to call now.

Dunkley was the right player, wrong timing. Dogs weren't interested in trading him, and set a price that was stupidly high (pretty sure it would have been the highest trade value in history) so they either kept Dunkley or got so far over the odds for him it was worth it. I'm not sure whether we approached Dunkley first, and if so, why we thought doing it when they had JUH to match and weren't likely to want a first rounder that year was a good idea.

Hill was again, right player, wrong time. Not our doing there as from memory he / his manager instigated it.

We've also been linked to Rosas from GCS so we've clearly been looking for a dynamic small forward. From memory, you're also right that Hill hadn't shown anything close to what he's produced at Collingwood - he was a small forward averaging < 10 disposals and < 1 goal a game.

Always pops up on the cameras after a win, welcoming “his” boys back to the rooms, does his utmost NOT to join the circle. ****s off like a genie in a bottle after a loss.

I know not all his but his mitts are all over our selections because, well, Dodoro

2023 - Caddy (KPF)
2022 - Tsatas (mid)
2021 - Hobbs (mid)
2020 - Perkins, Cox, Reid (bit of everything)
2017 > 2019 - no first rounders as overthought of contending crept in

Just once I wish our early selections could come in and perform to a suitable r high standard. McGrath in 2016 has probably regressed as well if you want to go back further. Just shits me that we simply cannot develop or draft kids good enough to come in and do a job well. Not all Dodoro's fault but this is just the pot luck Adrian has had (yes, I know, last few drafts have been RFK's, Dodoro is still around so has his stench on our selections as he would not be able to help himself.)

And before that our First picks were McGarth, Parish, Langford, Merrett.

Seema like Keane and Rosas could be the problem.

I think RFK should be on his way too. I don't care what he has done since (further training etc)he played, but he played 30 games and would have Dodo's prints all over him too.

It’s the Essington way

Our current draft run is like Adelaide's when they picked like Fischer McAsey etc.

RFK/Dodo JR has to go.
