The more you watch it the more you realise it was a skill error in trying to get it to Doedee. Correct call.
C'mon man. Doedee was two metres away from Murray and to his immediate right (behind the tackler, Spargo). I doubt Murray even saw him. He belted the handpass into the ground & directly towards the boundary line 12 metres away. Clearly deliberate out of bounds. That was his sole intention and he should've been penalised.

This would've been penalised 100 times out of 100 at any other stage of the match. The umpire chickened out and called for a throw-in because he didn't want to make a mistake and award a contentious free kick which would've decided the outcome. He was weak as piss and incorrect in his adjudication. He cost Melbourne at least 2 premiership points.

Well played Adelaide, a rebuilding team finding its feet and being coached the right way had a red hot crack and managed to catch a team with Premiership aspirations not at their best - and probably due a loss. The sky isn't falling fellas, and to the opposition: if you're hoping Melbourne won't be a serious threat to making the big dance then you're in for a rude awakening.

freekicks were fine 23-24 so absolutely no whingeing re. umpiring decisions, just great hussle by both sides.
What does a 23-24 free kick count have to do with umpires throwing the whistle away in the final minute and not penalising the Crows for two blatant infringements?

1. the non-HTB decision against Keays which led directly to Walker's go-ahead goal from the next bit of play.
2. the non-Deliberate decision against Murray which prevented Melbourne from taking the potential game-winning shot from 15m out.

If that happened to Richmond, you would throw your television across the room.

Anyone who claims that umpires don't decide the outcome of football matches needs to watch a replay of today's game and concentrate on what occurred in the final minute. They literally decided the game with two incorrect 'play on' calls.

Its all good because they threw the whistle away for the other 3.9 quarters and let melbourne get away with plenty

Really, really strange decision making by Melbourne in the final 30 seconds of the game.

You are 10 meters out from your goal, and down by a point. A rushed behind ties the game. I was very surprised that Max Gawn didn't just punch the ball through the goals from either the throw in, or the ball up. That way, you cannot lose the game, and you get an opportunity to man up and have another scoring opportunity to win the game from the Crows kick in.

Was a brave move to go for all the marbles, but maybe somewhat misguided. If that was a grand final, do you want to roll the dice and lose the match? Or, do you want to tie the game up, reset, and try to win the game from a score in the last 20 seconds?

Personally, i would rather be in a situation where my team couldn't lose. At the end of the day, 2 points are still better then none.

Numbers are irrelevant. A kick on the full is a free kick. Thats hardly a contentious decision
a “kick on the full”??..

you didnt even watch it did you... it was a handball. and it dribbled over the line..

it was deliberate and probably shouldve been paid... but you're miles off.

“Didn’t see it” must be a coach

No, I was literally flicking through pages on the browser on my computer and didn't see the actual incident in question. Having seen it I reckon it could have been interpreted as the Crows player trying to pass to his team mate a effing it up badly, or a deliberate call. I reckon deliberate would have been there but a bit stiff, and to be honest, I think the officiating of deliberate calls has been a shit show since its inception.

Too bad on the loss, once again, I don't think it'll do the Dees much harm. Looking the goods so far this year.

Mate, you're missing my point. I wasn't talking about that decision. I was responding to comments.

People keep highlighting free kick counts as justification for even or poorly umpired games. Free kick numbers as I stated are irrelevant. I can't remember if it was you or someone else, but the free kick count was mentioned to justify the even contest. I remember a game against West Coast where we kicked the ball out of bounds on the full at least 8 times.

Unless you're willing to invest the time to look into every decision and non decision, don't quote numbers and expect them to become relevant.

Game of the year. Not just upset of the year. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a game as a neutral as much as this.

You would think that in a upset as big as this the favorites would've lowered their colors, but honestly, both teams played exceptionally well.

That handball was definitely deliberate, but umpiring seemed bad both ways throughout the game, and crows deserved to win given all the risks they took, despite being around 3 goals down with 8 minutes left.

The magnitude of the upset is a bit overblown though.

Crows were paying 4s. Playing at their home ground. They've already beaten Geelong there. Melbourne have been looking due for a loss for a few weeks now.

You see much bigger upsets than this.
