Anyone played Super Mega Baseball? Shows what an indie company can do when they actually work within the constraints of their budget.
First, toss out real world graphics. Obviously impossible to get to realistic level, so just make everything cartoonish. Second, don't bother adding in more complex but non-essential gameplay elements, like picking off (or Banana kicks). Third, don't waste time worrying about licences. Just invent equally cartoonish teams and players.
Instead, focus on creating a smooth running game with the best gameplay of any baseball game. Create the best difficulty system ever in a sports game, from so easy you can't lose up to literally impossible, and 396 levels in between.

The result of focusing on the things that actually matter and make the game fun to play? The best rated sports game of all time.

How much time has Big Ant spent negotiating with the AFL (we know that, 12 years), scanning players, programming in cut scenes that people will watch once then skip every time? Instead they get a game which looks sort of realistic, but when compared to sports games with unlimited budgets, is clearly several cuts below, so it will be disparaged constantly. From the gameplay videos, it appears to run poorly as well. And the gameplay and AI seems sketchy right now from those videos too.
Maybe the game will be what we all hope it will be, with smooth, fun gameplay. But history tells us it'll probably pull up short in all these areas, and we'll be left saying they could of done so much more by trying to do so much less.

I think with what 2K did with their unlicensed American Football game in 2007 would be the best template.

To the PC gamers who will be up playing/streaming, enjoy!! Can’t wait to hear peoples thoughts/comments tomorrow and to have a run myself tomorrow night after work.

BigAntStudios last question I’ll ask you before I can discover for myself in 20ish hours time, if Pro Team isn’t actually available at launch, how far away do you anticipate it being? Thanks for everything!
