As someone who only plays online, tonight has been the most frustrating night since the game released. Even on my 30ms ping the game was unplayable for the most part.

Opposition players skipping 10m ahead from tackles, me managing to take a mark and 5secs later I’m done for holding the ball as I’m phantomly tackled, gameplay is lagging all over the place…..just an overall s**t show tonight.

Can’t see how Pro Teams is going to fair (whenever it comes) because I’m pretty sure people will just lag-switch you and make the game unbearable, as I’m assuming this game is peer-to-peer.

Definitely seems like anything 80+ ms is terrible, had a not bad game on 20ms against someone but had a few terrible ones.

Almost seems like they're restricting online play because glitches are happening that I haven't had in a week or so on single player

I was foolish enough to think this game would ever get fixed. Starting to think we will never get there which is a shame. Had more fun playing the game when the game got updated last week. Now every update is making the game more and more unplayable. More crashing, handball glitch is back and the glitches only happen to the player not the AI. Probably the biggest rip off of 2023 if I'm being completely honest. If this game was say $50, I'd have no problem with that.

Yeah it’s odd. Before tonight all my matches on 30ms were smooth as butter but tonight even those were very ordinary.

Even on 80-100ms pings (other players) before tonight were playable but it seems like every match tonight was played on dial-up.

Mentioned it before but the tackling glitch is especially annoying, player was surrounded by 4 dees players and got tackled, stood up and kicked into F50 which led to a goal

But It is a problem for everyone.

No one can play a second controller on the PS5 as a ‘guest/quick play’ option. The guest has to create/login to a PS account to play- and even then it will only work if done in certain menus, not anytime.
I don’t think you can play single player without a PSN account.
Don’t think it’s a second controller/local multiplayer issue.

Yep, makes the game pointless to play with that sort of stuff.

Starting to get my head around the changes. Hopefully these get refined back to where we were a patch or two ago but in the meantime I think it's something like this -

  • if you win a tap, handball immediately. There is (99% of the time) no disposal while being tackled for the first possession.
  • after the first possession, the mechanic seems to work reliably, but the window is much less. I can see why they don't want this to be some OP little meaneuvre you can pull most of the time although the AI does have that liberty.
  • One of the biggest challenges is not overshooting the ball while sprinting. On paper it sounds fair but in practice it's frustrating because if you're trying to chase someone down and you stop sprinting then all of a sudden you are too slow, despite making the contest in time. I get it, but the mechanic is not very enjoyable.
  • The only place you're going to realistically win back possession from anything other than a long ball is in the middle of the ground. Down back you have to mark unless there is a teammate next to you, which is rare. To BA's credit the AI is much worse kicking goals out wide so if you're feeling lucky you can go the punch in these areas. You are however at risk of the AI recovering more quickly and kicking a goal.

That free flowing core is still there, but without chaining a couple of handballs before you kick you're going to feel like the AI is not playing fair anymore . I can see the frustration, but I can also see how BA are trying to make it harder. I think the next two or three patches are going to be super interesting in terms of which way the core mechanic is taken from here.

Side note - of course I could be wrong with the timing of some of these changes, but the more I play the clearer they are getting.

Played for about the first time in a week. Patch something something “15” I think. I’ll start with some pros, which I definitely think exist. Probably the biggest pro is that after playing one full 5 minute quarter game I actually wanted to play a second. This was the first time ever.

Pros:

  • Okay, definitely harder now. Getting slaughter in two games on “hard”. I don’t think all of the increase in difficulty is good, but we did need at least some
  • I see some players drop marks and there is even commentary for it
  • You can sometimes get kicks off whilst tackled
  • Interchanges work, although given there is no sense of fatigue I don’t get the point of them
  • There is some nice context-sensitive commentary whilst I’m being thumped.
  • The game is sort of fun. It’s still VERY messy and the controlling of players is poor but hey, I had fun with it and I guess that’s what counts most?
  • CPU now spoils
  • Can handball to players running besides you and they don’t lose momentum.

Cons: (okay there are still a fair few….)

  • The lineup UI is poor. Sometimes there are mistakes, e.g. when I interchange Gawn to the bench the bench played becomes “captain” (although I think it’s meaningless during the game), and some are just poor design, like if you scroll to the bottom of the reserves list to find a player, you have to then scroll all the way back up before being able to place him on the ground
  • Interchange is also useless because you cannot tell player fatigue. I don’t even know if fatigue is programmed, but if it is you can’t see it. You also cannot see player heights, which is huge when setting matchups
  • The coin toss is also meaningless if you have no idea how the wind is going
  • The biggest annoyance is how hard it is to get a kick out. You’ll be well in the clear and have a shot on goal, where the entire animation gets played out. By the time the ball should hit your boot the opposition is 2 meters behind you. Then, however, the ball falls through your foot, sort of bounces off the floor, and then snaps into a tackle animation with the opponent who has flown there to get you.
  • Marks feel like a complete crapshoot.
  • The spoil has been nerfed, which is good, but now you lose so much momentum the player who went for the mark will almost always get to the ball first, so really there’s very little incentive to spoil
  • Player control still feels very janky, particularly when the opposition has a mark
  • Kicking out from full back is unnecessarily hard. You have to play on really, and fine most players do… but since the opposition often has a player standing next to you in the box with no punishment, it’s tough.
  • The game still feels very “light” with marking contests being normally two completely overlapping players, and lots of players running through each other around contests.
  • Speaking of contests, players don’t react to a contest, they just run around randomly

So yeah, I mean things are looking up, and we have at least for me at least hit a “it’s sort of fun” point, but it’s still a very frustrating game to play.

I may sneak in a third game though :)

Almost had the perfect linking play - until disaster strikes!

Had something similar happen to me online. I wanted to pass forward in my forward line to a loose player for an easy goal, but my player passed backwards and then I ended up conceding a goal. I reported that bug to support over a week ago.

A couple of slight additions to my above post:

1) That 2nd game crashed at three quarter time, so I did indeed play a third
2) That third game also crashed, so I hard to restart
3) One thing I’m noticing is a repeat play where I win the hit out, an opposition midfielder gets it, they handball out to their wingman who is always free because my wingman has run off him, they kick to centre half forward and if it’s someone good like Cameron or Franklin they mark it and probably goal. Happens about 6 times a game so not very fun.

I've also played for the first time in a few days.

Handballing has slightly improved, but it sometimes still won't let me handball to a guy that's 5m in front of me, will go in a random direction and could end up costing me a goal. Marking really is a crap shoot.

Goal kicking slightly harder, although I see the wind blowing to the right, so I aim for the left goal post and it shanks it left like the wind isn't there.

Turning circle is slightly better. Auto switching slightly better.

Won 99 to 69 on 5 mins quarters on medium. The game is getting better but still a long ways to go.

Like how in management mode, there is the mid-season draft. Didn't have any long term injuries so I couldn't pick anyone. But I did see the mid-season draft list of guys that were delisted from season prior in the game. Not bad.

Interchanges still broken on my side, but not the AI's team.

I had one long term injury - Mitch Lewis - who miraculously recovered from his injury the day after the draft. I got 2 picks but only used 1 (brought in Sam Naismith from Port Melbourne). I swear not using his pick forced the game into healing him

Well I’m management the entire league progress during the year except your team so I thought it would.

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
Management mode is for drafting, trading and developing players - so you'll get the player progression in that. Season mode is just a one-off season that doesn't involve list management etc. so progression will never really be a thing - it's a take it how it is approach

I had this one a few days ago (reported to Big Ant before it got funnier). Newcombe's hair got pinned and he started running circles around the centre bounce due to congestion and completely blocking the view. Was like a slowly forming tornado
