I feel like there is a small portion of people that defend BA or give this game a chance because it is an AFL game. If 2K pulled this shit with NBA or WWE they would get canned with people boycotting all their games. If anything WWE2K20 was one of the worst games I have ever played at launch with the bugs and boy did they cop some flak for that game.

Love it or hate it 2K put out some amazing content modes with those games there are the Eras, Seasons, online, career, my team and WWE games are starting to go like that to. You can't say they don't give you enough longevity with playing the game ( I hate the card style modes FYI). Ross compared BA to these companies which is mind blowing considering this AFL game has essentially given players a one season mode and play now with management mode unplayable with no depth and they have not delivered on the most hyped mode of the entire game. To put this into perspective the game released over 12 months ago and the the mode is still missing in the meantime 2K released NBA and before you know it it will creep into September with NBA releasing again and Pro Team will still probably be delayed or only just been running not long before hand...

All true, but differences in budgets and resources are astronomical in comparison.

Like i've said, Big Ant are the premier sports gaming company in the southern hemisphere, they have a 52 million dollar contract with Nacon, they have assisted in creating simulation software for AFL clubs, they were there in 2011 with AFL Live.

They are the people you want making a game, no other developer would be willing to stretch as far as the Big Ants have.

So you got to stick with them, even through the tough times, the dark times.

Don't you see....

Even if there is truth that they are awaiting approvals, which is hard to believe, given they've supposedly had these issues before you would think they'd allow plenty of time for the approvals to be processed and still meet their date.

We all know the person who is late to everything, and every time it's because 'there was lots of traffic', 'the Uber was late', 'had to stop for petrol', etc. And it's probably true, but it's also true that they don't allow enough time for unexpected minor delays.

Most people on here would have jobs or have studied in the past. If you tried to use Big Ant style excuses for assignments, or to your boss, how do you think they would go down? You might get away with it once or twice, and then the hammer would come down. People who keep making excuses for them must really have their heads buried in the sand.

I know you won't be with me on this.... but I have a feeling this one was beyond their scope of control.
That's trusting what they say about the platform holders... which I know you guys are taking as a lie because of the grudge held against Ross and his past.

That's fine. Each to their own.

Assuming it is a platform holder issue, you would think submission times would be taken into account when announcing target dates? Surely this had been discussed with the platform holders previous to now?

"When do we need to submit to achieve this date? And if we need to amend things, how much lead time is there?"

Like everything else, it just screams amateur hour. It's not their first rodeo.

And let's not forget, we saw a preview of the mode in a build of the game when Mitch Robinson toured BA a year ago. So they had a year to fine tune the mode and they still missed the cut off point to submit in order to make date?

I work in IT, when you have a requested install or implement date you take that date and work backwards generously to allow for delays. You don't wait until 4 days before the date to order the stuff that takes 4 days to come in. You don't wait until the day before to install the software or check off the shipped hardware for missing bits.

And if we run into stock supply or any other issues, we definitely don't wait until 4:55pm the day before to shoot off an email saying we can't make the date and then close Outlook and run.

Would love examples of other companies with this many repeated instances of external forces disrupting their stated targets...
This right here is the crux of it for me. External delays are plausible. When they happen across every planned release for basically every launch/reveal/patch they have had, and it is never their fault, it is either (1) a lie, or (2) indicative of a systematic failure of internal and external communication within the company.

Nobody else seems to have had the issues they've had, let alone this many times.

They are dysfunctional and have lost all right to the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think many people care about the game which is a shame as its AFL but they burnt a lot of people really. I still think if this was a basketball game, soccer game, shooting game or even a fighter game that promised features and didn't deliver the backlash would be huge.

Are they trying to say its taking them 12 plus months to get the approvals....
I could give a pretty logical and probable answer but most minds are made up already!

And given the history of it all I can understand why for sure.

I'm a big believer in giving the benefit of the doubt, but that ship has well and truly sailed with this company. If they had their shit together they could have submitted the build well in advance. Would love examples of other companies with this many repeated instances of external forces disrupting their stated targets...
Not to mention that we were told that ProTeam was ready to go 12 months ago
Bloody Sony and Xbox. Can’t believe they’ve taken 12 months to approve it 😢

It could be bullshit, it might not be bullshit, but putting it on the “platform holders” is something I’ve been experiencing with Ark Ascended updates/content since it launched but they aren’t holding shit back because it’s taken longer on another platform to be approved

genuinely surprised there is only 1.5 pages of outrage since the tweet went up.
No one cares anymore, this game died 10 months ago.

Top notch communication tho.
BigAnt could learn a thing or two here

I’m a big fan of the game and have had tonnes of fun particularly since the updates so far this season but one thing even I can admit is big ant are terrible at communication.

For whatever reason, Pro team has been delayed almost 12 months, so why wouldn’t big ant give it some pr spin and say “we weren’t happy with pro team and we went back to the drawing board to build something we were happy with”, it might be total bs but it’s a delay for a more positive reason.

Same with management mode, it’s understandable why it’s as barebones as it is (they’ve got a small budget) so say something like “our focus for this game was on the gameplay foundation and we plan to focus on adding depth to management mode in future titles”, they said almost this exact thing when Live 1 came out and people cut them some slack.

If approval from the platforms is hard to predict, then put out a tweet a week or so out from the 28th saying it’s in for approvals, if it doesn’t make the 28th then it at least looks like you tried.

Poor Big Ant. The approvals process is really hard to predict. Sometimes, all the approvals get lost at sea on a shipping container, and other times approvals take 13 months from the initial release a game that was completely broken and not even play-tested prior to release.

The audacity of these campaigners and anyone who still defends them is astounding.

Your early access footage is the only thing that was ever genuinely ‘lost’ or inexplicably gone that actually had truth to it. Thats also because it was you, not them providing the context as to why. Peoples minds are made up because they’ve shaken the BS tree about 20 times too many in the past 15 months. I’m still interested in what you think of Pro Team though!

Expecting the game to be Australia's answer to FIFA/NBA2K is brave - but the reality not having the same budget nor programming know-how is like Quinn finally being killed by the shark in JAWS.

Despite some animation programming quirks. The gameplay is ok (for me). I'm taking marks, kicking goals, linking plays by both hand and foot.

It's sad that management mode is a dog's breakfast, but I knew it would be based on how basic the Cricket career has been year on year. I've attempted it once, but 90% of my gameplay has been play now matches and 10% season mode. So I've largely avoided the angst of management mode glitches throughout the games lifespan.

I'm not interested in pro team. I've only been heavily invested in that type of game twice (an earlier Fifa plus Fifa 17), but the novelty wears off. Haven't looked at NBA 2Ks version nor the WWE equivalent

Agreed, depending on how far back they knew it wasn't going to be ready... it should have been announced days/weeks/months ago.
Honestly, they could have made a proper AFL game, that actually reflected and adapted the sport, I'm presuming since their budget would likely be in the millions, but they just chose to go on stadium tours and do photogrammetry which took a large chunk of the budget, which contributed nothing to the gameplay.

But the grass and 50 arcs looked so luscious...

And Luke Bruest still doesn't look like Luke Bruest!!!!

Not sure what the submission process is now, but it used to be:-
  • submit
  • game is tested by platform holders
  • if one thing doesn’t meet their standards, sent back
  • fix issues, resubmit,
  • repeat full testing process entirely (and again fail if one thing doesn’t meet the standard)

So if it’s still the same, then there’s no ‘how much time do we need in advance for approval?’ question to ask those platforms… it could be a cycle that needs to be repeated 10, 20 times until all is all accepted.

I also don’t think getting ProTeam in now was a matter of just turning it on and starting the submission process back on March 7 (when the 2024 schedule was released). I think it was, like the rest of the features we’ve had with patches, something that needed to be re-integrated back into the game… costing overhead time.

The rest of the 2024 updates went out on time, and with additional features that weren’t listed.
We then got another bug-fixing and stability improvements patch from player feedback in release 3.

Purely speculating…I then put down this year’s dev time to:-
  • work on the features in releases 1 and 2
  • additional features and fixes in release 3
  • dev time integrating ProTeam

And then I reckon dev was probably finalized 1/2 weeks ago, internal testing/changes, then submission… and likely 3/4 submission cycles to get us to now, which unfortunately didn’t get fully approved by today.

No idea if that’s actually what happened… but others are speculating saying it has nothing to do with approvals just from the gut feel from being burnt in the past… so I think I’m allowed my speculation.

I’d imagine Nacon/Sony etc. are going to be strict as people are going to be microtransacting on this, but 2 weeks is a stretch unless there are glaring issues that need addressing. Maybe they’re holding off until BA promises to give Bruest the proper respect and adds his actual model?

This is really the only logical take but a lot of people want to believe their conspiracy theories.
