WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

The federal government will move to apply an R18+ rating to all video games that contain simulated gambling as part of a proposal targeted at restricting children's access to popular casino-style games.

It will also seek to change classification rules to require all games with paid loot boxes — where players can purchase a box with a randomised in-game item inside — to carry at least a "mature" M-rating.

That would affect some of the world's most popular games, including the hugely successful series of FIFA soccer games.

Good

Hey BA for the next game can we have a reboot of that specky mark of the year IOS game, I miss it

Was that there one where you had to hit the green dots to time the mark?

Good afternoon ladies, gents, kids and whomever else may be reading.
For anyone that believes or is concerned that the game may be delayed, the answer to that is, it definitely will not!
Ross has stated that the game is “great” the only thing that could cause a delay would be unforeseen circumstances.
From my prior experiences, I would imagine they would be, if not have already, be close to cutting the glass master to produce copies so they can begin to ship to stores etc.
It’s only 2 weeks away!
Do you work for BigAnt?

better stop kids buying Pokemon(and sports for that matter) cards then since its the exact same damn concept

There are important distinctions:

The virtual items you’re hoping to obtain do have value. That’s demonstrated by people paying money for them in scenarios when you can outright purchase them. But that value never leaves that ecosystem, and that item is never truly owned by the player.

Rather, the player has the rights to use that virtual item. Rights which can be revoked when the developer sees fit.

Some systems allow players to trade items, and the developer takes a cut of those transactions. Many don’t allow trading at all. There’s never a way to “cash out” of the ecosystem. Third-party websites attempt to facilitate this by proxy, but these exist outside the allowed terms of service and are regularly clamped down upon.

That’s in stark contrast to any physical collectible card game, in which you own the cards. There are no restrictions on resale. There are no restrictions on how you use it, or even play the specific game with it. House rules? That’s fine.

The difference in agency is night and day. Got banned? Servers went down? Developer went bankrupt? All of a sudden that virtual item you thought you owned is no longer accessible.

...
One of the main arguments about loot boxes being gambling is that you always get “something” back. It was used by the ESA and ESRB in their statement on the matter.

This is also true of trading cards. You always get something back. But with trading cards, you always get something back of value. There will always be a sportsperson on that sports card, and you can always include one of those Magic cards in a deck.

You might not always want to, of course. And in that case, the solution is in the name. Trading cards can be traded. Or even sold.

By contrast, the “something” you get back from a loot box could be literally useless. A skin for a gun or character you have no interest in. An item that needs to be combined with another item, requiring more spins. Or perhaps an item that clearly labelled as a dud, please try again. Often you’ll get a duplicate item, sometimes in a game that doesn’t even allow duplicate items.

A “something” as good as “nothing.”

Besides, all they're talking about in that article is making it harder for kids to get involved. How is that a bad thing? 40 year old Joe Bloggs can still buy his 500 Jackson Nelsons for every Gary Ablett with this legislation. AFL Live 24 might just have to be rated M instead of G.

Well he's not going to be all like "Nah, the game is horseshit".

I don't think there will be a delay. I think there probably should be, but if some recent footage can be shown then that would put everyone at ease. Can't wait!

2 weeks til launch and the game isn't gold yet? Seems like its cutting it close to get the discs made and shipped around the country does it not?

In usual circumstances yes, however, we are talking about a man that has a team of die-hard football supporters.
They know how the game works, they’ve had assistant coaches on the payroll to help with the AI.
Ross understands the game
None of this automatically translates to a good game.

Its not the same thing in any way whatsoever.

A small concealed pack hidden away at a toy store does not have the same addictive qualities as purposefully designed lights and sounds luring with temptation in the comfort of your lounge.

“Can i go all the way to shops for some cards?”
“No. Its too far. No time. We have things to do. Maybe later.”

“Can i click here when i am in a trance”
“Click”

Mate, I can be absolutely certain that when they announced the release date, they would have had a game build that was likely near finished. I highly doubt they’d announce a release date without having the product near finished so I think they know what they are doing.
If you choose to not listen from the boss himself regarding the game build available at the event that’s on you. All games have bugs and stuff to iron out so I’m sure they’d have their own reviews on their product internally and also reviews from the launch event itself to use the last few weeks to iron out before release. I dunno, makes sense to me this

What?

It was a Frankenstein's build. We all know that. Never argued with that. What I'm saying is seeing what the launch version looks like compared to that will put everyone's mind at ease if they're worried there hasn't been much improvement.

Big Ant have a patchy track record with buggy launches too. Look at Australian Open. Cricket 22. That will affect review scores (assuming we see them before launch), and I don't want to see the game getting hammered in reviews even if it's eventually fixed. The media rarely goes back to re-review games and most people's opinions will be set by the reviews at launch.

At this rate I think the only retail play sessions would probably be next weekend also? Seems like it’s cutting a bit close to announce these ahead of time with only a fortnight left now 🤷🏻‍♂️

As my ma used to say while cooking - it will be ready when it's ready!

Or at least that's how it should be. Think delaying a bit to tune things is better than a rushed release.

Feedback and criticism is one thing, but page after page of this and constant moaning and whining about the same thing is getting tiring.

What's that got to do with anything I just said. Asking for more information on something I'm looking to drop nearly a hundred bucks on is fair.

Dissemination of info on this game has been very, very poor. It's not complaining to state something that is quite objectively true.
