WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Understandable. If say only 60% of the other platform's pre-orders arrive on time for the 4th of May, is this enough for the game to be released or do 100% of both platform's pre-orders need to arrive?

There’s a reason I said I wasn’t happy with the screenshots on Steam. Nothing at all to read into them, they are old and used for submission only.
Any chance of putting the correct screenshots on here?

Is ok Ross the Boss we all know which platforms to blame 😉😉 Like Nick Daicos Today 🤫🤫 (no one will know that it’s
Microsoft)😂😂

What’s the go with canceling preorder at JBHIFI and just buying/downloading on PS store when it releases at midnight? Is it worth doing?

You say that the game will not be further delayed because of number of units in stock but is that still leaving the door open to other reasons for a delay? Just looking at the wording and all. Hopefully not though and that I'm just looking into it too much haha.

Something out of our control, something you don't see coming (e.g. like Covid was), there is little chance of a further delay but I can't say 100% no chance, it's just very little chance.

I never pre-ordered as i never intended on doing so, but i will be buying it on the store and hopefully playing it before i have to get up and go to work

Honestly feel bad for big ant ☠️ people have been asking some pretty dumb questions that obviously aren’t allowed to be answered, then people are getting mad because they won’t answe. the game is coming out may 4th and if it doesn’t come out may 4th then too bad, we can all just wait. I want to play just as much as anyone here but unfortunately waiting is just part of the process. From what I’ve seen big ant has done what seems to be a great job with AFL 23 so if I have to wait a couple weeks then so be it. Shit happens, delays will happen. Just be grateful that we are getting a new afl game in the first place.

My request of both platform holders is that a disk is a free upgrade (not downgrade), and digital will work on both generations based on the box you have logged into your account with. This is the same for both platforms and I believe it has worked this way for Cricket 22.
I recently upgraded my Xbox console and when I put the disk in for cricket 22 it gave me a notification asking for me to upgrade the game

Not sure if it’s just because I’ve searched the game a few times, but it’s showing as the #1 trending PS game on my app. Great to see!

It's all about price really. JB has it for $79 on May 4 and then it's $89 going forward from there. If you're happy to pay an extra $20 (assuming it's $99 on PS Store) for the convenience of playing a few hours earlier (if it actually releases at midnight Australia and not midnight UK) and you're someone who doesn't like getting up to change discs, then that's your benefit there.

so if i pre ordered a copy at jb for ps5 i don’t have to worry abt if there will be enuff stock or??
I'd imagine pre-orders should be fine - that's the whole purpose of pre-ordering; to ensure that exact store is aware of how many copies they will need to hand out release day. I'd imagine they'll just restrict walk-ins if there is limited stock - but I guess if they only receive 5 or so copies, that'd be up to the shop who they give it to (eg. jousting comps out the front of the shop for a copy)
