WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

how many legends can we expect to be in the game. also i’m curious on why selwood was listed as a legend and not just as a recently retired player that’s still in the game like kennedy and gray

Wasn’t originally keen for pro team mode but the potential list of legends has me interested. Still hoping they can be used in team management mode but wait and see. If not hopefully the academy gurus get to work 😂

I’m hoping Stafford and Simmonds are on this legends list to, want to bring back Terry’s triangle.

Just noticed around 3:53 in Twistie's video, a Richmond player seems to teleport about 5m forward. Bit of a weird bug that I'm sure, or at least hopeful, will be ironed out in the initial patch.

Just something I've noticed with the advertising LED boards around the ground. Firstly I love the amount of sponsors they have implemented and how its on rotation throughout the matches. However I feel its to chaotic, the ads are segmented around every 50-100 metres at max, and they are rotating different ads every 5-10 seconds and not at the same time. Looking at the matches this weekend, particularly at the MCG and Marvel they rotate only the one advertisement throughout the whole ground on the LED boards at a time. Although it's not going to change the game at all, and understandably it may not be worth the time to change for BA, i thought it was just worth mentioning. Attached are examples :)

Interesting the video screen is off.

The same principle applies, brand recognition, or quantity over quality. Also, with your logic, that would mean Soccer is a much better sport, because more people play and watch it, over Australian Rules Football. And for the reasons I stated, people will gravitate to a video game with inferior gameplay, because of the brand recognition, licenses, and better presentation.

I have yet to see anyone dive deep and make honest observations into why modern FIFA or modern EA games have superior gameplay to its competitors, it's always the opposite.
a game is not just only gameplay, its the features, graphics etc, i said OVERALL fifa is better

gameplay is subject to opinion, some ppl like the arcade feel some ppl like the simulation feel

this is different because there is lterally only fifa and pes, only 2 options, the things you stated have many options

fifa overall is better than pes thats just a fact, the figures say it all

you do realize presentation also helps make a game better

The gameplay is the most important thing. If you have bad gameplay, everything else is meaningless. FIFA is only better in areas other than the most important area being gameplay, compared to eFootball. Go on any comparison video on YouTube, most of the comments will say eFootball has the superior gameplay.

if it is better than it is not so significant where it makes it a better game overall. thus thats why ppl still flock to fifa.
if pes had all the things , gameplay, presentation etc etc better than fifa we would flock to that. in fact pes was on top back in the early 2000s or something but now its changed

to you fifas gameplay might be unplayable but you dont represent everyone. the majority have deemed it good enough where its not game breaking and obviously alot enjoy it

One minute into twisties first game vid. AI hitting players directly behind them with pin point handballs the moment they take possession, then going across the 50m arc to contests and kicking back outside 50 to take shots. 🤦‍♂️

We’ve put man on the moon ffs…

People flock to FIFA for things other than the gameplay. The licensing, the graphics, the presentation, etc. EA killed the best NFL video game series by 2K just by monopolizing the license. That doesn't mean Madden 23 is better than NFL 2K5.

It did annoy me a bit when the AI were 55 out on the right half forward flank and then kick it to a 2 on 2 contest 50 out on the left half forward flank. JUST GET IT IN THERE AI!
