WHEN CAN I PLAY? READ BELOW:
  • PlayStation (Physical): Thursday 4 May
  • PlayStation (Digital): 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May
  • Steam: Currently 8:01am AEST Thursday 4 May, may be moved to 12:01am AEST
  • Xbox (Digital or Physical): TO BE CONFIRMED, unlikely to be 4 May

Those that pre-ordered PS versions will be able to play on Thursday, disks will have already been mailed by retailers, they will also be available in-store.

Steam will also be available Thursday.

Stating the obvious, we are still having issues with XBox.

Seriously, anyone that looks hard knows there’s issues - why do you think there are so many exclusives for a particular platform that are not marked as exclusive, but are only on that platform.

If I took that road, life would have been a lot easier.

Xbox digital and retail will release at the same time - that is not a decision we get to make.

It applies now and I will no doubt pay a price.

Re: commentary team
Hamish is still there, Daisy didn't make it into the final version of the game.

We added Gary and increased the workload of Harf.

Re: game availability/release dates
I can never give 100% guarantee about anything in the future, but as it stands today, the statement I am prepared to make it that all stock that is at retailers on 4 May will be available for sale.

As to the amount that will be there for sale, and whether it is enough, that is a question I cannot answer.

It will be made digitally available on the various platform holder electronic stores.

Clarifying, the game will not release prior to 4 May 2023.

I am vague as there is one platform that has had sufficient stock at retailers and the other has not, and I cannot name them (contractual reasons).

The game will not be further delayed because of the numbers of units in stock.

Re: Steam listing
I've already put in a request for the screenshots to be replaced with current ones, they'll probably only be there for a day.

As much as the feedback has generally been positive, these are old, meant to be placeholder only and were not meant to go live.

Re: playing lists
All playing lists are accurate for the 2023 season.

Re: content creator footage
This is all prior to day one patch (as some have noted updates like numbers etc are apparent)

Re: Career mode
A head's up on Career mode.

At the AFL 23 Launch night I mentioned the non-team based Individual Career Mode in an interview with Dean (Twistie3). As alluded to at that same event, we were working with the AFL and AFLPA to include as many past legends in the game as possible.

The great news is that we have received approval for far more AFL legends than were previously envisaged, but this has meant that we had to make the tough decision to divert resources away from the Individual Career mode development. The individual Career Mode function will not make it into AFL 23, Career Mode will be entirely team based. I expect this mode to be include in future iterations of the game.

Re: microtransactions
You do not have to make purchases, things can be earned.

Re: general development
So fundamentally flawed, in so many ways, it’s bananas.

We are doing AFL as it’s a passion project, without us doing it there would not be one being made.

So much more upside with making games that are played internationally, let alone one that will not even be played in every state in this country.

Having finally caught up after a difficult night at the footy 🙄

I gotta say, I had high expectations when Big Ant announced their return to AFL games but AFL 23 is so far exceeding those expectations by a mile.

I particularly loved the contests between players in the trailer, the ruck contests have improved massively and that spoil looked so damn good

Anyone getting a physical version of the game will not get past the opening menu.
That’s okay BigAntStudios, I’ll just stare at the opening menu screen for 3 weeks straight and wait until the game comes out that way then :$

Is that a quick fix should the stores be given the green light if it breaks date?

Especially for Digital copies?

Pretty sure PlayStation only makes changes at midnight don’t they? Midnight here or midnight in UK, so it most likely would be 9am Monday if physical street date broke

The visuals are looking superb, BigAntStudios & JNT BA. Really loved the snippet of Pendlebury picking up the ball, spinning out, looking inboard and kicking across his body. Was this all gameplay footage or motion captured for the trailer?

Lots to like about what we're seeing so far. Keen as to see some extended gameplay now!
Everything shown in the trailer was rendered in the game engine, we do have the ability to move the camera wherever we want, zoom in/out, slow down/speed and trigger specific animation to save us recording/editing time but otherwise the animation is in game play.

Pendles' kicking animation was perfect!

Haven't been this hyped for an AFL game since AFL Live 1 (attended the play sessions at the old office). 😁

Bloody awesome. Thanks so much for responding.

Watching the trailer yet again, the teams singing the song after the game looks great. Got me thinking it would be a funny/annoying addition during Management Mode where if you lose a game, instead of seeing the winners sing you hear their muffled team song and cheering through the wall as your players all mope around or sit dejected just to rub in the fact you lost. Or maybe just play the audio as if you're hearing it while you scroll through the after game information.

Dumb little idea so obviously wouldn't expect it in this iteration, but might just make those losses even more annoying, especially if it's a rivalry or final.

Hey Ross with the delay besides pro team have you been able
To add or work on more things in the game that wouldn’t have been in the game if the release date stayed the same? Thanks trailer looked unreal mate

Update on the guy who bought the game, I think it’s fake or he got lucky cause I went to the same one and he took them all away when I went to buy them … but he said Xbox arrived recently

I have a feeling they wouldn’t have finished Pro Team in time or it at least wouldn’t have had a couple finishing touches. What those finishing touches might be I have no idea but no doubt they’d be able to add things that would now be day 1 rather than a patch 3 weeks into release.

I wonder what games inspired Big Ant for AFL Live 1, because it was nothing like any of the other AFL games. It certainly didn't feel anything like Premiership 2007, any IR Gurus AFL games, any Creative Assembly's AFL games, and of course nothing like AFL Challenge. I noticed Wicked Witch just ripped off IR Gurus's gameplay mechanics for their 2009 and 2011 games, then switched to ripping off Big Ant starting from 2013 to 2020.
