Yes I'm aware of how much they are paid. The problem is that they work part time - and on the side they have full time jobs. You have to pay them more if you want them to work more.
Just like the Politicians! Is'nt that right Barnaby!

My point is, what they get paid part time, is more than most get full time...
There is nearly enough incentive for them to commit full time as it is.

To be honest, i would rather they start full time umps at the State league first, then gradually build them into the Senior ranks.
the incentive isn't enough at the top level already, its the fact that theres not enough incentive at local and state leagues to make enough of a commitment to become a senior umpire

Sorry full time or part time is not relevant to me...........there are good umpires and there are bad umpires (hello Ray). Then you have the AFL Umpiring Dept flip flopping rule interpretations on a weekly basis. So hard to get any consistency.

Here's an idea. How about the AFL relieve us all of these insane first round interpretations that get everyone up in arms every year only for them to die a quick death a week or so later (like the protected area fiasco they threw up this year), and focus instead on addressing real or factual inconsistencies in the game like the outrageous free kick discrepancy that some interstate teams enjoy year on year.

Look forward to hearing the 'we got some wrong' line again after the Sydney v GWS game. Some terrible interpretations used that is doing the game no good, at least with traditional fans.

What’s jack need for a free kick , smashed front on in marking contest by Stratton, play on , get it right you. Silly campaigners this is getting ridiculous
It was disgracefull on a number of times

What I loathe about AFL umpiring is that there are way too many grey areas...left to the indivifdual umpire interpretation

Given there are 3 officiating maggots on the ground...3 different interpretations

This is unheard of in other professional sports

Rules have to be black and white.simple...

Take the maggots out of the equation...only then can we take this seriously

Are we the first club to win a Premiership finishing last in the free kick differential ?

We're tracking well to finish last again this year.......

Someone should start a running tally thread.. how ironic Clarkson bags selwood, but poupolo does exactly the same, Cyril is pretty good at milking high contact too.. just got to tackle lower tigers

Umpiring is ****ed. Ruining every game (not just ours). At least 4 frees that get paid every single time, ignored.

1. Hairy midget goes for mark of the year and air balls it. Cereal cherry picks and goals.

2. Some ******** smashes into Riewoldt front on without going anywhere near the ball. Not even a whimper.

3. Another dick knob handballs to no mans land in our forward pocket. No deliberate.

4. Some ****wit holds onto to Martin, stopping him collecting the ball and run into goals.

Our player crawls 2 cm over the mark. 50!

Not even fussed over the **** up over our goal review but the eagles got majorly screwed in their game. Who the **** are these dumbasses and who the **** hires them?

Umpiring department clearly can't stand Jack. I can only assume he's mouthed off for years but they're supposed to be professional. It's becoming all too obvious and the club needs to speak up. Mind you, I'll happily take another year of reaming by the umps (supported by the stats) if they back off again in the finals like they did last year.

Today was a strange one with the goal review - for once we seemed to benefit from a total umpiring meltdown but sure enough it was too good to last.

why the actual **** can't boundary umpires make decisions? Half of the trash we get served up is directly due to umpire being inside the play and the play facing the boundary and the poor umpire not having any clue what's going on. Just change your numbers of umpires and shift it around so EVERY umpire (bar goal) is the same bloke - a field umpire.

although it is also the grey areas in the rules that contribute to the trite we and other clubs see week in week out I feel like more often than not umpires make bad calls because they don't have the best view.

What have you got now... 3 field, 4 boundary.

What happens if you have 5 field and 2 "boundary". Where the field umpires spread around the ground to envelop the boundaries and then you have one "boundary umpire" down each length of the field to primarily assist in ensuring the boundary calls are correct etc. (Like a linesman in soccer I guess)

This wouldn't entail 5 blokes running around like our 3 do now, but rather have 5 blokes covering the duties of the 3 central and 2 boundary umpires.

Maybe I'm crazy?

Shit if that's too much just keep it the same and let the boundary blokes have a whistle too.

Edit: To clarify I sit front row on the 50m arc near our interchange and see way too many times a boundary umpire standing in front of me with clear view of incidents the field bloke watching the back of the play misses.

Actually now I think about it, we are the first and only club to have a review of a review. West coast’s review was clearly wrong but the decision stuck. So why didn’t ours? The ****ing umpire was determined not to do us a favour. I thought umps aren’t supposed to look at the screen!?!

Bolton’s review was a **** up and they overturned the G , that still makes me sick in the guts

Saw another first today after the umpires cracked down on players dropping the knees all week, they pay a free kick to a Hawk player droppin’ ze knees.

We have a different rule book.

Well done to the sandpapers with whistles.
